    3. Hi Denise I don't know how they found the time, to even tend their families : ) I don't, and I'm only sitting here reading about their exploits, let alone putting it into practice LOL I have been researching for the History of our hospital, all the cooking they must have done!, to raise funds for their churches etc. Every body supported all benefit socials whether it be CE, RC or Wesleyan etc. or for a family suffering hardship. BNA and CWA notes in the newspapers : which I am finding lots of info in on the women's lives themselves, but that would be a little late for Mrs Hirram : ) CWA started c1923 and Bush Nursing c1910 Have been collecting obits since c1990 for our local area, and even right up to 1940's [where I'm up to now] nine times out of ten the dec'd is Mrs J [husbands s/n], and quite often not a clue to her name, or maiden name, unless strike it lucky and she is the dau of Mr & Mrs [fathers's surname] and the mother of ten children [names not given] I have often read where the ladies have walked literally miles to help tend a neighbour in sickness or distress Regards Marg > As part of my preparation for researching when in Beechworth etc etc I am trying to get together some ideas on what to look for in relation to finding out more on the women in the families.

    3. Hi Marg, how does it go! >> I don't know how they found the time, to even tend their families : ) My Martha didn't have a large family - which amazes me given the times/habits etc etc. I also think she probably had help doing what women do. At the very least, her daughter lived at home with them always. > I have been researching for the History of our hospital, all the cooking > they must have done!, to raise funds for their churches etc. Every body > supported all benefit socials whether it be CE, RC or Wesleyan etc. or for a > family suffering hardship. > > BNA and CWA notes in the newspapers : which I am finding lots of info in on It certainly seems the way to go, the church activities - community benefits etc. > the women's lives themselves, but that would be a little late for Mrs Hirram just a tad, she was in a deep sleep by 1911, as was my other ggmum. Thanks for the imput Marg. Denise
