    3. Bron, I want to find out more about him to fill in some gaps in the history regarding those who "surrounded" Hiram Crawford for his life story I'm revising. For the life of me I can't figure out where I got this information. I have it here somewhere and I think it was newspaper articles, so therefore perhaps in the scrapbooks. I am certain it isn't in the Diary. So in brief what I have (ahh it is coming back I think it was in the farewell to Hiram in Chilter - will check it out) Hiram had a claim in Buckland working next to a well educated and cheerful young man . they were making more or less good returns when the epidemic hit. Hiram at this time was also running a store for Snow and Bigelow. (more names to dig up here) This young mate turned out to be a Dr. and he had thrown himself into working with the ill. Hiram eventually lost touch with Dr. Hutchinson until about 15 years later when Dr stepped off a coach and straight into Hiram's Star HOtel in Chiltern. He had been in Qld where his ventures were unsuccessful (now I recall quotes - sleeping in the open, etc etc) He took a room at the hotel and within two hours had his first patient. He eventually had practices in Wang and St. Kilda. That's it in brief. I have to go out now, but I shall dig into my coffin of records (actually a long box, I thought it an apt title for the box!!) and let you know.
