"Dr. Hutchinson. who was warmly received responded to the toast by saying that his friend Mr. STrickland, had touched him in rather a tender point, when he alluded to Queensland squatters. However profitable the enterprise shown by those who had entered on squatting pursuits in Queensland might have been to the country, it had been something else to those engaged. They had heard some remarks about pioneers, but with the exception of Mr. Strickland, no one present had any idea of what pioneering was. He (Dr. Hutchinson) was glad that he had got away in safety from pioneering and its delights, and he hoped no enterprising person present would be foolish enough to follow in his footsteps.
