    3. Bron...................and Jan.......... I have found the article to which I was referring. It was in the Ovens and Murray Advertiser Thursday 30/9/1869 a farewell banquet to Hiram Crawford. speeches galore, toasts, singing (think the singing was more often and louder as time progressed) but here is the bit Dr. Hutchinson said - still no christian name -- and nothing in the Diary at all about Hutchinson, but small reference to Buckland. I shall have to dig further for that connection, it is there somewhere. "Dr. Hutchinson. who was warmly received responded to the toast by saying that his friend Mr. STrickland, had touched him in rather a tender point, when he alluded to Queensland squatters. However profitable the enterprise shown by those who had entered on squatting pursuits in Queensland might have been to the country, it had been something else to those engaged. They had heard some remarks about pioneers, but with the exception of Mr. Strickland, no one present had any idea of what pioneering was. He (Dr. Hutchinson) was glad that he had got away in safety from pioneering and its delights, and he hoped no enterprising person present would be foolish enough to follow in his footsteps. Pioneerings meant doing without water; without food, unless what could be gathered in the bush; sleeping under a gum tree for 364 night out of the 365, besides many other inconveniences which he would not recount." Back later if I find the other piece on Hutchison Denise ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jan Glasby" <jan.glasby@hawkerc.act.edu.au> To: <AUS-VIC-NE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 10, 2002 4:42 PM Subject: Re: [AVNE] Dr. Hutchinson > Just one more mention: > > "Albury Banner" 17 Feb 1866 > Albury Hospital - In consequence of the resignation by Dr Barnett of his > appointment as one of the medical officers of the Hospital through some > alleged personal grievance with Dr Hutchinson, and on his declining to act > with him upon his being appointed Honorary Visiting Surgeon, a special > meeting of the subscribers was held at the Mechanic's Institute on Thursday > when Dr Hutchinson was unanimously elected to fill the vacancy and to act > in cooperation with Dr Keatinge. > > Cheers > Jan > > At 04:14 PM 10/03/2002 +1000, you wrote: > >Jan, this is the time frame Dr H returned to Vic from Qld, so the chances > >are good.
