    3. Vivienne. I've seen stories of old Harry and the coaches - also the fact that Harry was "supposed" to have taught Ned the tricks of the trade. Nevertheless I would be extremely interested in what it has to say about Hiram the coaches and Harry. - Is there any way I can get a copy please? is it too large to type. Thank you Vivienne for thinking of me I really appreciate all that everyone does. The mailing list members get a big rev in the Bibliography. regards Denise ----- Original Message ----- From: "Vivienne Wooster" <vwooster@cust.caloundra.net> To: <AUS-VIC-NE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 28, 2002 7:55 AM Subject: [AVNE] Hiram > Hi Denise, > > Did you know that Hiram Crawford is mentioned as being the owner of a coach > held up by a bushranger, Harry Power, in Peter Carey's "True History of the > Kelly Gang"? > > Cheers, > Vivienne. > > > >

    3. Hi Denise, On page 79 Ned says that the coach was coming from Whitfield. Harry Power, the bushranger, is about to hold up this coach whilst young Ned holds Harry's horses away from the roadway. This excerpt is from page 80: "The air was filled with dust and panic. Throw down your gold I'm Harry Power. I calmed the packhorse and the Waler but my own blood were stirred something awful. Throw down the ....... gold cried Harry and I knew we would be rich and I were v. happy. There aint no adjectival gold said a dirt dry voice I peered out through the wattle fronds and seen Hiram Crawford's gleaming Yankee coach still rocking on it's queasy springs a tall thin stick of a driver were staring down through the settling dust. Harry pointed his one inch muzzle loader directly at the driver's shirt. I will blow your ....... innards out. But the driver were a Beechworth man named Coady...." There is roughly another two pages of this incident. Although the story is fiction maybe Peter Carey found records somewhere of this event. Hope you will be able to find out more.
