Hello Denise , In James Flett's "Old Pubs" of the goldfields in Vic, page 20, he says: Beechworth town was laid out in June 1853 and two slab stores - Palmer's and Williams' - were erected. The first licenced hotels in 1854 were William Neuber's "Beechworth" and C.H.Palmers "Eldorado" and a third was "John Reilly's) In 1856 were Wallace's "Star", James Wilson's "Criterion", John Duncan Fisher's "Commercial", "Eldorado", M.Langford's "Beechworth" and others kept by Henry Wise and Joseph White. Dear Ada, As usual you are able to fill in gaps or at the very least give me clues to go on. I do truly appreciate your help. Qld is so devoid of anything to do with the north east, I go mad. Even our State Library is based mainly on Qld (naturally some would say) but one would think that the family section would have more than they do, given that half Qld population are Mexicans (as I am) regards and apprecation Denise ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ada Ackerly" <aackers@alphalink.com.au> To: <AUS-VIC-NE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 02, 2002 2:11 PM Subject: Re: [AVNE] Hotel Licenses: when did they come in? > Hello Denise , > > In James Flett's "Old Pubs" of the goldfields in Vic, page 20, he says: > Beechworth town was laid out in June 1853 and two slab stores - Palmer's > and Williams' - were erected.
