Hi Sharon Well - we were in luck. When I went out to the cemetery this afternoon Glenda Miller was there - she is very active in the Historical Society and Cemetery Trust. Glenda took me right to the headstone I was after in the RC section. It is a very nice monument in the form of a celtic cross and the grave is surrounded by a simple silver painted fence about a foot high. The inscription is centred down the cross as follows; To The Memory of John Pearson Rowe died 6th May 1878 Aged 68 years R.I.P. Glenda also told me that there has been a very good book written about the family and she will get me the title/publisher etc. At the very top of the cross there are the letters AMDC. My father seems to think John Rowe was in the medical field but I can't find anything in my books on Euroa about him. Next time I'm over there with a camera I'll take a photo for you (I did try to sketch the cross but I have no idea how to put it on the computer). Also, Glenda did say that the Trust are concerned that the base of the cross is cracking and they are not sure what to do about it and if there are any relations out there who want to contact her about it, please do. Hi Lois, thanks very much for that, John Pearson Rowe was a doctor he started out in Hobart where he had a clinic to help the needy, he did not practice in Vic. He was also the founder of Rochester, it was to be called "Rowechester" but when gazetted the clerk assumed the spelling was wrong and changed it to Rochester. We will let any descendants know about the cross when we find them.
