Publicans were known to start a few rumours. It was rather a dangerous method of advertising, for the publican. A publican would spread word that gold had been found near his pub. Morgan was a publican in Black Dog Creek and one day he found himself standing on the edge of a mine shaft with a rope around his neck. The miners had accused him of spreading a falsie. Being good miners they decided to check first, and LOW, BEHOLD, they found gold in what was going to become MOrgan's grave. Morgan was very happy. As an aside - the man employed by Morgan to prosepct for gold was named John Conness - and Chiltern's famous street is called Conness after him. Denise - Qld
