Just a snippet I found in another page I'd copied from the O and M in Beechworth "The Bushranger Power This notorious scoundrel has now got a mate named Lake, who has been in goal for illegally using a horse, and they are sticking up in all directions. Dr Rowe the squatter near Mansfield got shot at Power on Thursday but fears he did not hit him. The bushrangers apparently did not show fight, but scampered off. The police have been indefatigable in their exertions to effect a capture; two troopers while hot on the trail unfortunately killed one of their horses and very nearly killed the other. In this part of the district we have reason to believe the Mr. Superintendent Wilson has organised a system that will make it pretty hot for Mr. Power should he appear here.
