    3. Carol, whether Expert is the description I doubt But last week when I was at Burke M doing exactly what you want this is what was found -- Each book came in a year or two of rates for example 1881-2 and 1882-3 Name Street, sometimes the allotment and Section #, owner/landlord (i.e. if first Named is owner, it said owner, if it was rented it gave landlords name. What the property was used for. e.g. house land 5 acres, crops etc. etc. Sometimes you got the rates £ value But each year varied. To find the property you would have to see the parish maps etc etc from the Shire Council which is just behind the Burke Museum - you can walk to it - 1 minute. Hope this helps Denise - Original Message ----- From: "Carol Dale" <coradsl@tpg.com.au> To: <AUS-VIC-NE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 01, 2002 8:19 PM Subject: [AVNE] Information in rate records > I am considering requesting research on the rates records held in the Burke > Museum for the properties listed for my ggggrandfather, James Lishman > Wilberforce, but before I do, can anybody tell me what the rates records > contain ie. the type of information that I will get if I get the research > done.
