    3. Perhaps you may know of the lady mentioned below Phyllis. Phyllis was the daughter of Harry Hollister who drove coaches for Crawford and Connolly. Harry was born in Stanley in 1870 and died in Wodonga at 84 years in 1954. He is buried in Wodonga. He married Beatrice STONE in 1898 (died in 1944). The couple had four children one of whom was Phyllis Isabel who married in 1933 Wal Humphris and lived in Wodonga. She died in 1997 and used to lead the Anzac Day service at the cenotaph. She was President of the RSL Women's Auxiliary, catered for the Mayday Hills. Was a musical lady from what I have been told played the organ and sang. Perhaps someone remembers this lady on Anzac Day. Denise

    3. Denise, Thanks for your posting about Phyllis Humphris. It is information which I can use to pad out part of my family tree and reminded me of some unfinished research. Did Harry Hollister marry his first cousin?? On first glance, YES. Harry's parents were Augustus Hollister and Kate nee Stone while Beatrice's parents were Charles Stone and Emma Dive. Kate and Charles were brother and sister or were they? Harry Hollister's mother was Kate Stone, daughter of Sarah Hopwood who married Job Stone, and Beatrice Stone was a daughter of Charles Stone, a son of the same Job Stone. Job and Sarah, incidentally both convicts and my ggg-parents, married on 27 September 1842. (Kate's sister, Mary Ann married Henry Woolard at her parent's home in Stanley in 1864) Kate Hollister nee Hopwood was born 15 May 1841 at the Female Factory in Parramatta and registered as the daughter of William and Sarah but with surname of Hopwood. She took the Stone name after her mother married Job. Of course, it is possible that Job was her natural father (his convict ship arrived in Botany Bay on 27 April 1840) but I fear that will never be known. On the other hand Charles Stone was supposedly born in 1840, a couple of years before Job and Sarah married and it would appear highly unlikely although possible that Sarah was his mother. (I say supposedly because NSW Pioneers Index shows that birth as being registered in 1845 as the son of Job and Kate although other records indicate 1840 - this has yet to be resolved) Paul Woolard ----- Original Message ----- From: "Denise McMahon" <helendmc@powerup.com.au> To: <AUS-VIC-NE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 30, 2002 10:13 PM Subject: [AVNE] For the Local North easters > Perhaps you may know of the lady mentioned below Phyllis. > > Phyllis was the daughter of Harry Hollister who drove coaches for Crawford and Connolly. > > Harry was born in Stanley in 1870 and died in Wodonga at 84 years in 1954.
