Hello Robyn, I'm not a local, but looking in the VicRoads directory I see that Browns Plains is about 15km east of Rutherglen on the Murray Valley Highway. I am guessing that perhaps Browns Plain Road is an earlier name for the Murray Valley Highway. That would mean that his farm was somewhere just east of Rutherglen. As I say, just a guess. Hope you get a more authoritive answer.
