CHARLES WILLIAM TEAKEL D/D 4 August 1936 By the lamented death of Tuesday morning of Mr. Charles William Teakel, Myrtleford has lost yet another of that fast diminishing band of pioneers, whose efforts have done much to place this town and district where it is today. A worker for all that was helpful and beneficial to the district and its inhabitants, and above all, a man of character, the deceased gentleman has left behind him a mark that will not be erased and could be worthily followed by the rising generation. The late Mr. Teakel was born at Whorouly, 80 years ago, he having the experience of celebrating his 80th birthday on the same date as that observed by King Edward VIII. At three years of age, the Teakel family removed to Myrtleford, and the deceased gentleman had spent the remaining 77 years in this district. He was a laborer by occupation, and a worker whose services were always sought after. In January, 1885, he married Miss Elizabeth Jones at the Beechworth Methodist Church, and in January, 1935 they celebrated their golden wedding, by publicly entertained by their family. Splendid health had been enjoyed by the deceased right up to the last few weeks of his life, but the latter month had found him failing in health and he gradually sank, until death finally intervened at 1.45 yesterday morning. Throughout his long sojourn here the late Mr. Teakel had been actively connected with every public movement, and he was one of the first trustees of the Myrtleford Racecourse and the Rechabite Lodge. He was for many years the recognised doorkeeper at all public functions, whilst his willing services were always to the disposal of any organisation. The a particularly wide circle of friends his loss is now greatly mourned. Left to cherish his memory are the widow and following members of the family: Charles (Wangaratta), Frank, Roy (Melbourne), Reg, Mabel (Mrs McColl, Sydney) and Molly (Mrs G.Murray, Mudgegonga). One daughter, Minnie, and a son, Clarence, are deceased. The funeral will leave his late residence at 3 p.m. today, to the Methodist portion of the Myrtleford cemetery. Mr J.E. Milne has charge of mortuary arrangements. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul & Kathryn Lucas" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, August 01, 2005 4:30 PM Subject: [AVNE] Elmer/Jones/Barton/Teakle > Looking for Elmer, Jones,Teakle and Barton in Myrtleford, Beechworth > 1850's onwards. > > I have a story written by Ivy Elmer and she talks about life in Murmungee > etc. Her parents were Frances Jones and Samuel Elmer. > Would really like to Contact any Teakle related to Charles Jones and > Elizabeth Teakle > Cheers > Kathryn > >
