27 July 2005 Hi All, I think Im going slightly mad because its my understanding that Delatite Station was in the county of Delatite yet a page from the Christ Church Kilmore marriage register has the address of the bride and groom as Delatite Station, Benalla. Benalla as far as I am aware was in the country of Moira. Is it possible the cleric was just confused and made a mistake? Also according to a map in a book called Victorian Squatters compiled by Robert Spreadborough and Hugh Anderson was roughly between Mansfield and Jamieson. Cheers Anne Hanson
I'm no expert, but there is the Delatite River that runs through Merrijig which is near Mansfield and Mt. Buller. Maybe the station was named after that. Not sure where it flows from or to. Hi Anne, Delatite Station was and is near Mansfield. However on an early Parish map of the Southern portion of the town of Benalla the county is listed as DELATITE. At the time you are referring to Benalla was a main settlement and Mansfield was not, My guess is "Benalla" was nearest well known place. Hence Delatite station, Benalla. Kel from Benalla
