Hi Lawrence, My memories are of WWII in South East Qld. My Dad & Mum moved when WWII started from Brisbane to Gympie (where I was born soon after) to be near my Grandmother, Wangaratta-born widow, Catherine TANNER. Our family name was STRUTTON (Dad's father having been born in Whitechapel in 1855, and his father in 1810). I can remember how upset my parents were when Dad was accused of being a German spy by locals. The Matron of the local hospital changed her name from Rosenberg (German Jewish) to Rosen at the start of the war because of public opinion. Local families did not acknowledge any German heritage or connections, even in the fifties. So prejudice was alive and well in the nation until very recent times. Best Wishes, Rosalyn
