Hello Anne, Such official appointments usually are listed in the Victorian Government Gazette, but it is possible that these early Victorian appointments are crossovers from the time when all appointments for Port Phillip were made by the NSW government, although Victoria, after independence, did try to legitimate previous appointments, though this took some time. As 1853 is early in this crossover period, so the NSW Govt Gazette pre 1851 might be checked. However, these are merely lists ... usually local magistrates (probably designated J.P.)
