Hi Thank you to all who answered my post, and thank you also for sharing your stories and giving me an avenue to explore to try to find the missing child/now old man. I have been researching for five years now and yes I have uncovered numerous skeletons that people thought were well hidden but this is the only one that affects living family. For those of you that asked - yes I am sure that both these children belong to my grandmother and that the second one is definitely not my grandfather's. I have a copy of his army records so know he did not return to Australia until after the end of the war. I will still try to find the missing second child and only if he is still alive and I thought it would be beneficial to all parties would I consider sharing my information. I will document all I have found along with the birth certificates for any future researcher in the family. What upset Dad and his siblings was not the fact that their mother had had the child but that they had an older sister that they had thought of as a distant cousin who had missed out on so much - things that were not recoverable. I realise the 2nd child is a half brother, that we will never know who his father was and that things were different in those times but that does not stop me feeling sorry for him and all he also missed out on. And although I hate being party to this cover up I will probably have to be - not to protect my grandmother but to protect my father and his siblings from unnecessary pain. Thanks again Cheryl
