Peter, Could Cerley be Oxley? Moyhu is in the Shire of Oxley. Shire of Cerley? Hello again listers, One of the placenames in the list of Sharon's spares that I have just mentioned looks something like Moyher or Moyner in the Shire of Cerley. According to the BDM the birth is listed as occurring at Wangaratta, so it is in that vicinity. I am guessing that it should really be Moyhu (about 25km south of Wangaratta). Does anyone have a birth or death cert for a rellie that would have occurred in Moyhu in the 1890s? If so, can you please look and see if Moyhu is in the Shire of Cerley, and whether there were spelling variations for Moyhu? Thanks Peter ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to AUS-VIC-NE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Hello List, Moyhu used to be in the Shire of Oxley, but is now correctly referred as the Rural City of Wangaratta. My thanks to Jackie and Robert for identifying the shire as Oxley. Apparently from the certificate, Oxley is a possible (though not certain) reading of the parish. So I think it is a fair guess to assume the place was Moyhu in the Shire of Oxley and not the first guess of Moyner/Moyher in the Shire of Cerley.
