Hi Phoebe 'Hougla' as you mention is in fact Thougla, or as in the early days 'Thowgla'. When gold was first found in Bullocky Creek, the rush to 'Thougla Creek' began. During its heyday, the upper region of the valley was a hive of mining activity. Today, it is one of many small peaceful valleys that make up the Corryong district. Wm Collins, after his 'travels' settled & built his homestead at Thougla where he followed pastoral pursuits. He was regarded as “The oldest settler on the Murray”. While I have not done research on this family for some time, I believe Wm & Mary had another 8 children aside from William John, Frances & Sarah. Daughter, Sarah became Mrs. Wm.
