    3. Last week my husband found some old newspapers while demolishing a house. They are from 1937, '38, '39 '40. Some are just odd pages while others are complete newspapers. Pages are from 'The Argus, The Sun, The Age and The Herald. I have gone through and extracted a few articles that apply to the North East. Oct 18 1939 The Age Yarrawonga - While attending to a horse Mr Harry Vagg, a well known farmer of Tarramma, Mulwala was kicked on the leg and had his thigh broken. He was taken to the Corowa Hospital. Whorouly 11th Aug 1938 The Sun Miss Maisie Steer was entertained by Whorouly Nrth residents at a variety tea and was handed many gifts before her marriage to Mr A Lindsay. LOWRY 21st Jan 1939 The Age On Jan 13th at Buckland Valley, result of bushfires James Charles Lowry passed away, loved son of James and Lily Lowry brother of William, Harold and Alf aged 39 years also grandson Ronald Lee Lowry aged 15 years only child of William and Edna Lowry of Whitfield. Springhurst 16th November 1939 Mr John Docker Read died in a private hospital in Melbourne on Monday aged 74. He owned Springhurst Station and was one of the leading breeders of Jersey cattle in Victoria. He was an active member of the Victorian Branch Australian Jersey Society of which he was president. He was a leading exhibitor of jersey stock at the Royal Show. He was also active in work for the Church of England. He left a widow, three sons and four daughters. He was cremated at Springvale. more later. Regards Judy
