Apologies for cross-posting! Just a quick up-date on the present situation at the Yack Bank of Victoria Museum. It's now about 6 weeks since our disastrous fire, and we are positive we'll come out of this awful situation alive and kicking... eventually. We had a hugely successful session with four lovely people from Museums Victoria yesterday, who were and are really helpful. They were very complimentary about how Yack is dealing with the problems, and with them we brainstormed a number of ideas for both our short and long-term plans. We have still to settle on the future format of the old building, but will do so soon. This will then give the green light to the insurance people and we can get started on the nitty-gritty of re-building. We will be short of funds soon, but so much has been achieved that we know we just need a bit of financial help. We've had a very successful market of donated goods, held on the one day of rain in about a thousand years (it seems!), and raised a few hundred dollars. But every lttle bit helps. We're planning another market soon, so wish us luck! A wonderful man from Ballarat, who wants to remain anonymous, has donated a whiz-bang computer to replace the one we lost! We think this kind of generosity restores our faith in human beings and the cause and purpose of regional museums. He may want to remain anonymous, but we will certainly acknowledge him at the right time! Our sincere thanks also to those who've donated money to help us, and also to Dianne Carroll for her offer to donate all her CDs of the history of NE Victoria. Thanks Di. One thing's for certain - the fire and its consequences have drawn the Yack Historical Society members together as nothing has ever done before. And we are hugely grateful for all your good wishes. I'll keep you up to date as time and events go by. Cheers, Peter Ross

Hi Ian, All I have for Thomas Morrison is from his Beechworth marriage cert. Born approx 1837 Lanark. father Thomas Morrison, shoemaker, mother Janet Gould. I'll keep your names in mind. Many thanks Heather
Hi Ian, We have names in common but unfortunately I haven't found a connection. My Morrison is Thomas fm Lanarkshire who married Margaret McOmish at Beechworth 1864. Do have several Johns but not this one. Our Reid connection is purported mother of Edward McGeehan, Ellen Reid in NY, but his background is my continuing brickwall. The Reid name is carried down thru several gen as second name. Many thanks Heather
Hi Peter, Thanks again for all your help at the Yack Cemetery last year. We found John Morrison's grave (and a few Reids) but am wondering if anyone is doing that family and is aware that John was married and had a son, who became Charlie Blair later in Life. My great uncle Charlie has heaps of descendents. I'm returning to the search after time away and welcome any assistance. My names of interest are McGeehan & Morrison of Beechworth & Myrtleford areas and any twigs including Peach, Hicks, Klippel. 1850s on I live in Tasmania (have family in Myrtleford) - and trying to fill some of the gaps. Many thanks, Heather
Hi Heather, I don't think we have a connection from what you have written. Mine are definitely from Ireland and Eliza Morrison married George Reid in Victoria in 1862. I don't have any Thomas Morrison. HOWEVER, I do have a Morrison family in Lanark to track down. A Ralph Morrison b1883 married Maggie Stewart in Lanark in 1909. They then emigrated to the US (and perhaps on to elsewhere else). John Morrison and Sarah Kettle were Ralph's parents. Any connections? Hi, I am very interested in the Morrisons of Yackandandah / Beechworth descended from a George & Helen Morrison from Ireland. There are many descendents, including the Reid family, still in the NE Vic district. I have a branch probably not know to the family - from John Robert Morrison, 1834-1914 Yackandandah. Hi Mary, Thanks for the info on Henry B CAREY. Today I found the death of his son Francis Wm CAREY (ex-machinist, probably Vic Railways) in France in 1918. I was able to download 69 pages of his military records from the Aust War Memorial. Henry from 1918 wrote letters to the Army asking details of his death, obtaining photos of his grave, etc, all on Vic Rail stationary (Commissioner's Office), hence the huge file. Henry signed himself "Commissioner's Guard" in 1922, so I can presume that he is the guard in the photo. Again, thanks for your help, Rosalyn ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary Dean" <md063299@bigpond.net.au> To: <aus-vic-ne@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, January 27, 2007 10:19 AM Subject: Re: [AVNE] Railway employees > This could be him - > Department no 988, Carey - Henry, born 17/10/1848, commenced 3/7/1876, > goods/passenger guard, Branch - traffic, married, Source R84 G89 > > thats all > Mary > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Rosalyn Strutton Smaill" <r.strutton.smaill@bigpond.com> > To: <aus-vic-ne@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Friday, January 26, 2007 9:11 PM > Subject: Re: [AVNE] Railway employees > > >> Mary, >> I noticed your email and wonder if you can help me please?
