Hi Listers This list seems to be very quiet for the last few days. Are others finding the same thing please? I have just changed my ISP and wonder if that has not worked for some reason. I re-subscribed to all my usual lists and received my re-subscription notices, but, apart from my Irish lists, am getting no messages from anyone. I would like to make contact with Peter Higgins again, a descenandant of the Klingsporn family if he is still on the list. Regards Judy
Sorry, list - didn't look before I sent a private request to Peter Robinson, did I? Oh well, we all make mistakes, as Billy Jean King infamously said.... Peter, if you see the request for Suffolk lookups on the list I dare say you'll realise that it was meant for you. Ooops. Phoebe
Hello, Peter. I seem to write to you every few years saying (unhelpfully) that I need lookups but don't really know what! How embarrassing. But at last I can frame an intelligent request, I think. Are you still prepared to do these favours? Here's my situation, if so. Cutting in Bacton, Suffolk, C17-19, is my central concern, but I have a cousin with the Bacton PR fiches, so that's not a problem. The trouble arises when they start leaving home. In 1851 one Samuel Cutting appears on the census in Wickham Skeith; he must've been the right age to be my chap. Unfortunately mine was Robert Samuel Flowerdew Cutting, who tended to change his mind about which of his names he'd answer to. If you can find anything about him in W Skeith it would be very useful. I think he moved to Fornham St Martin, married and died there as Robert, but if there's a likely Samuel in WS I'll have to consider him too. In Stoke Ash I have a family of ASHFORDs to follow: any PR entries relevant to any of them either side of 1881 would be interesting, though not central to my research. You mentioned once that you had PRs for other neighbouring villages: may I ask which ones? I've got family spread throughout Hartismere, and collaterals who need sorting out. Any data on John CUTTING, bapt c. 1796 somewhere near Bacton, would be extremely helpful. I don't know what I can offer in return except thanks, but I can say please don't worry or rush. If you can do this I'm happy to wait. Regards, Phoebe
Hi Waffles Thanks for the response - much appreciated and will add your comments to those already received. Cheers Peter, the older of the tworobbos
I believe that here on the Central Coast, NSW the local history group is often spotted working in the reference room upstairs in the Gosford Library. The Reference officer chats and advises and often has suggestions of sources that perhaps the local history groups may not be offay with to the extent that a Reference Officer perhaps is? I guess it works well? Waffles
Replied in detail privately Elizabeth Roberts The East Gippsland Family History Group has recently learned that a number of similar groups/clubs/whatever have formed various types of alliance with local libraries. Several libraries I have contacted have advised that the local group has: 1.. Disbanded and donated their resource materials to the library 2.. Been granted space in the existing library building and allow the public to access a select range of their resources. 3.. Added most of their collection to the local library but have it held in a controlled access area. We would be interested in hearing from anybody with knowledge of, or involvement in, such arrangements or variations thereof and their opinions on the success or otherwise. A Thomas MULLINS was charged with stealing a saddle and bridle, value 20 shillings and with stealing a horse in November 1861. He appeared in the Mansfield Petty Sessions on 16 November 1861 and the case was dismissed. My question is, is anyone familiar with this name and I am sorry I cannot be more definitive. Dear Grenville, Thank you very much for checking the local phone books for me. I'm sorry not to have gotten back to you sooner. I called one of the BONAT in Oaklands, who was able to tell me that all of the other people are related to her, and all of them are descended from an Italian man, Arturo Bonat, who was born in 1899 and immigrated to Australia in 1924. So it is much too late for us and clearly not the right BONAT, unfortunately. Are there other BONAT nearby in the area, perhaps on the Victoria side? Thank you again. Hi Peter, My name is Chery Smith and I just noticed an insert into the Aus-Vic-NE list that informed the listers that MARGARET KENNEDY had died in December. I've tried to reply to her son-in-law (Alistair) who apprently submitted the notice, but my letter was returned as a bad address. "Joko. . . . . I am very sad and shocked at her loss, and wondered if you have an email address I can send my condolences to Alistair and her daughter Kim. Thank you, Cherry, subscriber, Kiewa
