Thanks Bron. I believe there was also one in Sydney. As for the Melbourne one, I've read where it must have been there in the very early days - I've noticed several names mentioned as having attended. Once again, it shows how well equiped the newly settled colony of Vic was. Given the times, and the distance from the "populated" part of the world, Vic's residents had much in the way of facilites available. Who was the constable who shot Ned Kelly's horse? He was chosen because he was the best shot in the district.
Denise It would probably be the Melbourne one as from below it opened it 1851. Kathy Scotch College at Spring Street Scotch College is the oldest school in Victoria. Its foundation was due to the initiative of the Reverend James Forbes, who was the first settled minister of the Presbyterian Church in the State. It is 'the outcome of the old Scottish ideal of education', in which Church and School were inextricably connected. It opened on 1851 under the name of the Melbourne Academy in a small house in Spring Street, with Mr. Robert Lawson, a Scot from Edinburgh University, as the first Principal. Later moved to Hathorn where it still is today.
