    3. Hi Denise, I have seen large round magnifyiers that you hang around your neck that include a light being sold in Spotlight stores.     3. 1855 Wang got its bridge across the OVens. Canadian design, spanned the stream in a single arch (yep only one). The gangs used axes from America for the very very first time in the colony, so that made it a wonderful bridge............All good things came from America. Poor Billie the Puntman when out of business. Got into a bad mood about it too. then in 1866 on the same day. The First sparkling wine was made. Mr. P.D. Ramsey , Beechworth, mde it, with assistance from mr. Russom, the soda water manufacturer.

    3. Denise, Scotch College, Melbourne opened in October 1851 in Spring Street. There is a bronze plaque set in the pavement in Spring Street to mark the spot. The college moved to its present location in Hawthorn in 1916. When I was a pupil there in the mid 1920s to mid 1930s, I remember a boy named Gemmell, I think he might have been Bruce Gemmell; he may have been an descendant of your man. It was common for sons and grandsons etc to follow on at the same school. There is a good history of the college published which lists many if not all the pupils who passed through the school; when I next visit the library, possibly early in the week, I will list the Gemmells that I find for you.
