    3. I am searching for the family name of Du'ring / During or similar. I have reason to believe that it may have been my gt grandfathers birth name. He was adopted by the Schulz family after his mother died on board ship coming in to Victoria and I have just found the death of a woman on the same ship as the Schulz family and I am assuming that he was one of the surviving children. If anyone has any information on this family I would be most interested. Kaye Vernon Beacon Hill NSW

    3. Hi Marg, do you happen to have any PATTERSON or HULME on your partial listing of Holbrook cemetery? Quite a few people from the Greta/Oxley area seem to have moved to the Holbrook/Culcairn area no doubt due to the lack of available land - other names I've come across are FERGUSON, GAMBLE, COZENS, JONES. Wangaratta Chronicle, Saturday August 31, 1889 BORDER RUSH FOR LAND. - There was another great rush for land at the Albury land Office on Thursday morning there being upwards of 100 applicants for a 1000-acre block thrown open at Germanton. The demand for land in that district is very great, and numbers are waiting a cancellation of useless reserves, and the falling in of leases in the eastern division. Yesterday's "Banner" says selectors are not alive to their own interests when they do not bring their conditional purchases under the Act of 1884 which reduces the interest from 5 per cent to 4 per cent. Wangaratta Chronicle, Saturday July 19, 1890 LAND SELECTION IN NEW SOUTH WALES. LARGE AREAS AVAILABLE. The announcement made a few days ago that the leases for nearly 600 000 acres of land in the eastern division of New South Wales are about to fall in will naturally have attracted considerable notice in Victoria. A greater portion of the land in the Eastern division may be applied for conditional purchase on Thurs next. The land lies in most of the land districts in the division, it being in those of Albury, Armidale, Billinger, Bombala, Burrowa, Corowa, Young, Gundagai, Yass, Cowra, Braidwood, Moruya, Casino, Tenterfield, Cootamundra, Eden, Glen Innes, Grafton, Tukmut, Iaverell, Kempsey, Molong, Murrurundi, Tamworth, Queanbeyan, and Walcha. On the 31st of this month another patch of leasehold may be selected, and on August 7th and certain subsequent dates the remainder of the 600 000 acres will be available. As on former occasions, Victorian farmers have crossed the border, and taken up land in this colony when the unlocking of a large area afforded them a favourable opportunity to do so, and as no doubt the effect of the present releasement will have the same effect, it may not be out of place to give a few general indications of the procedure required in taking up the land...... "We have to record the death of one of the oldest identities in this district - Mr Thomas Mitchell of Bringenbrong, NSW. The deceased gentleman, who was 72 years of age at the time of his death, first came to this part of Victoria in 1845 when he took up Tangambalanga run, which he afterwards sold to the late Mr. Thomas Brown at a good figure. He then went to New Zealand where he purchased 10,000 acres of freehold land for which he gave £20,000. In 1862, the area had been reduced to 9,700 acres, estimated to carry 1391 cattle. The rent was fixed at £139, but as usual on appeal reduced again to £48. 2. Tony & Bronwen Smith
    3. The reason no information was found on the property at Dandongadale is because Dandongadale is not in the area covered by Wangaratta family history society. Dandongadale should be covered by the Myrtleford or Bright groups. Wangaratta family history society have a large collection of research material for the area covered...........Wangaratta, Tarrawingee, Eldorado, Chiltern,Rutherglen, Glenrowan, Greta,Milawa ,Boorhaman, Bowmans Forest, etc. We are lucky to have a collection of information on Beechworth and Stanley as well. We would welcome anyone who wants to come and check out our resources to contact us. We do try not to double up on information held by other groups in the area. We have a large collection of victorian cemetery records and headstones as well. The burial records for Wangarata cemetery were not in the library on Sunday due to unforseen circumstances involving the forthcoming production of a c.d. including both the headstones and the burial records. But those people attending the "circus" were told several times on the day to write down any lookups they had that did not have a headstone and the information would be sent to them. It is unfortunate that no guide could be found for the day to help people find their required graves. I was unable to help due to a number of circumstances and was unable to find someone else to do it. When the c.d. comes out, you will be able to print out maps to take with you to the cemetery. The rest of the "circus" must have been satisified with their visit to Wangaratta f.h.s. because some of them are returning tomorrow because we had too much material for them to look at in one day.Others have said they will be back later in the year. 3. A search for "Khancoban Station" on google came up with a realestate advert which was listing properties it has recently handled, It seems that "Khancoban " changed hands not long ago! 3. Greeting all, Tonight I delivered a copy of the Bios folder to the Benalla & District Family History Group. It didn't get a great deal of circulation........our Librarian, Mrs Joan Hooper , soon spotted her G Mothers name, and a discussion soon developed re several other names that were, or looked familiar ; needless to say thats as far as it got!! As Joan is not on the internet I will be sending her contact details to Ann Ferguson so they may exchange mutual interests. A good start I would say, now if only somebody else could get a look in......... Stewy
