Vivienne. I've seen stories of old Harry and the coaches - also the fact that Harry was "supposed" to have taught Ned the tricks of the trade. Nevertheless I would be extremely interested in what it has to say about Hiram the coaches and Harry. - Is there any way I can get a copy please? is it too large to type. Thank you Vivienne for thinking of me I really appreciate all that everyone does. The mailing list members get a big rev in the Bibliography. regards Denise ----- Original Message ----- From: "Vivienne Wooster" <vwooster@cust.caloundra.net> To: <AUS-VIC-NE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 28, 2002 7:55 AM Subject: [AVNE] Hiram > Hi Denise, > > Did you know that Hiram Crawford is mentioned as being the owner of a coach > held up by a bushranger, Harry Power, in Peter Carey's "True History of the > Kelly Gang"? > > Cheers, > Vivienne. > > > >
Hi Denise, Did you know that Hiram Crawford is mentioned as being the owner of a coach held up by a bushranger, Harry Power, in Peter Carey's "True History of the Kelly Gang"? Cheers, Vivienne.

Marie - yes I do have Edward McMahon who died aged 48 years at the Ovens District Hospital and was buried 28th June 1913 by Arch Potter in the C/of E Sectin D #472. Gee, I could have had a look last week for you if you'd let me know and taken a photo of the headstone. By the way folks Marie (McMahon) is my very-quiet-on-list-sister-in-law. Can one of the circus folk please tell her where she can access the hospital records - didnt you find out Lorraine? Mary is trying to sort out if the above McMahon is one of her lot . regards Denise
1. If anyone is tracing James Henry Kneebone of Bowmans Forest I have PART of his Obit from the Ovens and Murray Advertiser in June 1907. Happy to scan. sorry it is only part (but a large part) but it was not what I was copying and just happen to be on the page. 2. Sale of Whitfield HOtel - The sale has been effect during the past few days of the new Muntain View Hotel at Whitfield woned by Mr. H. Tyrell. Mr. T. E. Foran, of Ballarat, was the purchaser and the negotiations were conducted through Messrs. Philipson Newman and Co. 3. Piano and Organ Tuning - Mr. Robinson snr assited by Henry Robinson now resident at the Hibernian Hotel, Beechworth, cautions those requiring his services against employing anyone of the same name, as being neither authorised or competent to carry out his system of work. 4. Grave Robbbers. Nothing seems too mean or comtemptible for some people to accomplish - even to the stealing of choice flowers placed by loving hands on the graves of departed friends. A mean thief of this character has been again at work in the Beechworth Cemetery. Last Friday or Saturday a choice daphne, planted on a grave in the C of E divison of the cemetery was roughly divested of some of its blooms. The thief, in a hurry of stealing the blooms, dropped a rosette on the grave baring the Beechworth colors - red and black. Let us hope that such mean thieves will soon be identified and receive the punishment their dastardly conduct so justly merits. === BOY, what would they write if something worse than flower pinching happened. These are from O and M the week following 7th June 1907.
If anyone wants to look this up for themselves it was in the O and M on February 3rd 1855. Anyone researching William Witt of Beechworth pre 1905??? Denise
Ernene, I don't even have a sheet with the letter R on it. Each time I visit the B Museum I buy two or three pages, sometimes relevant to my research sometimesnot. They cost 40c each and I feel this great value for an aid to find our rellies. Sorry, can't help with "R"s. Hi Everyone I have just received the death certificate of my g grandmother's brother John NICHOLSON who died in 1926 in Rutherglen. The names of the others on the sheet are: ARTHUR, Sophie aged 74 years FACKRELL, Ellen aged 78 years If anyone is interested in either of these ppl please email me and I will send further details. BTW where it asks where they lived and it is shown that the person lived in more than one state is there a particular order that it is written? eg Vic and NSW does this mean that the person lived in Vic first? Thanks for any info on this. Regards Robyn Young Bannockburn Vic Aus
Hi Listers, I would like to thank eveyone who send me a note on my problem -- specifically the death of the STACPOOLE twin girls. The answer was that they were only 15 weeks old -- not years. This now makes sense and it is logical. Unfortunately this poor family lost 5 infants between 1895 & 98. There was a suggestion that there was an strong TB epidemic in the area at the time. One interesting aspect of studying genealogy is that you can almost appreciate the life styles --and deaths -- of our ancestors Cheers, Ted
I looked thru several archives whilst in the Burke Museum and as I wade thru my scribbled notes I will post from time to time what they had. I asked to see the Hotel LIcense applications. The earliest the B M has is 1874. The best way to look up who had what is thru the rates books for early dates. Hope this helps those who need info in the future. Denise
To all my fellow circus members I want to say thank you for your gift and show of appreciation, at the dinner. I've just unpacked it, and I know I didn't get around on the night to say thanks. It will be put to good use. I was tickled pink, so again thank you, I really enjoyed everything about our days in the north east, before, during and after. regards Denise
Anne - will get back to you later also, but found several ads in the O and M when in the B Museum, put in by Charlie T. Will scan for you soon. It may well give you more clues perhaps on the time frame you were after. We met Allan who is a great guy, lots of knowledge on the area, so do suggest you give him a ring. I think he loves getting queries!!! regards Denise ----- Original Message ----- From: "Anne Hollingshead" <hollies@melbpc.org.au> To: <AUS-VIC-NE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 20, 2002 10:36
Marylou. Thanks, but you're not at all boring. My newspaper cutting sadly does not have a date but most definitely not 1962. As to whether it is James 1862, I don't know, what hoping to find out what the clipping was in relation to my gg, but all I can tell you was he was married with wife and daughter, and died in China.
