I don't suppose anyone recalls my posting of some time ago regarding ice in the 1850s and 60s being cut from the frozen lakes of Massachusetts and used as ballast for ships to Aust. Some clever little captains used to sell it in Melbourne and it was then shipped via express wagon (and the mind boggles at anything express those days and especially when it comes to ice) to the gold fields. I found mention yesterday of Beazley and Co bringing ice to Beechworth at XMAS!!! Does anyone know of this Beazley??? The Beechwoth-ites owed much to Beazley it seems. No, I am NOT now researching ice! Denise
Hi Heather yes. We have McNeils from I/Skye arrived Vict 1852. Did they own the Criterion in Beechworth and if so which timeframe? My gg is noted by family istory as running the Criterion (not necessarily owning) in Beechworth. Does anyone have any knowledge/details of Martins Prune Factory at Bruarong? The photo I have would be taken in about 1915, I would estimate. Ronda

Susan During the 1860s and part of the 1870s, my g.grandfather Johnson Quin held the lease on Murmungee Run until the Land Acts came into force. On a survey map I have of tha area it shows A. McMaster holding 20 acres in 1888 and J.McMaster holding 19ares3 roods and 34 perches on the Qvens River at the boundary of Murmungee. This is all I can find as regards their land ownership Carmel ----- Original Message ----- From: "Susan Baines" <susanbaines@lineone.net> To: <AUS-VIC-NE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 14, 2002 5:53 PM Subject: [AVNE] Murmungee & McMaster > Looking for information about an Andrew and/or J McMaster, who may have > owned/run a station at Murmungee.
