Listers I've just been reading 3 months of 1869 Police Gazette and found lots was happening at that time. I shall post these in case someone's rellies is listed. Denise £300 Reward Whereas on the morning of Saturday the 28th August last the Beechwroth and Buckland coach was stopped in Bowman's Forest Gap by a man armed with a double-barrelled gun and two revolvers, who presented his gun at the driver and ordered him to bail up, after which he ordered the passengers, four in number, to descend and lay upon the ground such money or valuables as they possessed: And whereas the said offender obtained frm Mr. Hazelton a gold watch, from the driver £2.16s in cash and 13s from a female passenger; and after robbing other persons who had in the mean time come up, he eventually gathered up his booty and rode off upon one of the horses taken from the coach, boasting at the same time that he was the person who robbed the Beechworth and Bright coach on the 7th of May last, Notice is hereby given that a Reward of Three hundred pounds will be paid by the Government for such information as will lead to the arrest and conviction of the offender who committed the outra! ges above described. This notification is in lieu of that which appeared in the Supplement to the Gazette issued on the 7th of September last, the latter notificiation and all copies thereof, being hereby cancelled. Description of the offender. He is described as probably English, aged 40 or 50, 5'6" or 7" in height, with a short greyish beard and heavy eyebrows. He wore a light grey sac-coat of raised pattern, light trousers, blucher boots, and a light brown felt hat. This man there is every reason to believe is Harry Power, alias Johnson, who escaped on the 16th of February last from the Pentridge Stockade, where he had been confined under a conviction for horse stealing at Beechworth. His description is as follows: Native of Liverpool, aged 48, 5'6½" with sallow complexion lightbrown hair, blue eyes, scar on the forehead, scar on the cheek, two scars on the right arm, scars on the left elbow, large scar on the left shin, left third finger deformed. Dear List, I am researching the above families, which appear to be connected to the Beechworth, Wangaratta areas. The main family is the PRISMALL family, Andrew and Elizabeth PRISMALL, who are both buried in Beechworth Cemetery. Andrew was a miller, who settled in Beechworth after leaving Thomastown, where he owned a mill and bakery. Andrew died in 1894 in Stanley. His wife, Elizabeth, nee CRAIG, died in Beechworth in 1882. They had eight children. Their details are below: John Craig Prismall, born 1856 in Thomastown, died in 1858 in Thomastown Jabez Booth Prismall, born 1858 in Keelbundura (Thomastown), died in 1859 in Victoria. Amy Prismall, born 1860 in Woollert, Vic, died 1933 in Melbourne. Amy married a James Henry GELLIE in 1885, Victoria. James Henry GELLIE died in 1922 in St. Kilda. They had one son William James GELLIE, born in 1888 in Clifton Hill, who married Gertrude WILBERFORCE in 1912 in Stanley. William James died in Brighton in 1956. Edwin Prismall, born in Woollert in 1862. I have no further details on him. Ada Prismall, born in 1864 in Thomastown. She married Willard Ashdown Wilberforce. I have a lot of detail on her as she is my direct line greatgrandmother. Herbert Prismall, born in Collingwood in 1866, died in 1867 somewhere in NSW. Alfred James Prismall, born in Wangaratta in 1868, died in Kew in 1926. Married Eveline/Evaline GELLIE in 1895 in Wangaratta. She died in 1908 in Fitzroy South. I have no issue listed from this marriage. Margaret Prismall, born in Wangaratta in 1871, died in Heidelberg in 1957. She married an Edward John WOOLCOCK in 1894 in Wangaratta. They had six children, Lilian Pearl, Edward Clifton, Alfred Glenroy, Frederick Norman, John Lawrence and Colin Craig WOOLCOCK. Edward Clifton WOOLCOCK married an Alice Ruby LACY in 1920 and he died in 1983 in Beechworth. Can anybody help me with this family? John Pearce (Pierce, Pearse) M Mary Elizabeth Hart at Tarawingee in 1860 at the property of Robert Ried. John was born abt 1842 in Albury, their M/ certificate states his parents as John born abt 1819 no place given and Mary, "Aboriginal no surname given", I would appreciate any info on the Pearces. How can I trace Mary? Thanks Zola
I am researching Betsch family. I believe they later changed their name to Beach or Beech. Georg Betsch married Phillippina Mack in Sydney in 1864, their first child William was born there, Catherine, George, Elizabeth, John, Phillip & Henry were all born in Albury 1866 - 1881. Georg, my G Grandfather died in Albury 1882. Any further info would be appreciated. Thanks Zola
Yes, Mary - forward it. I just checked the catalogue I have for State Library, and the information is confusing. The first time span is from 1850s to 1955, then it seems to suggest it is broken into different segments, and there is one that end at 1920 - so fingers crossed. We mere helpers can only try - right? Dear fellow listers Marg very kindly had a look in the Victorian Inquests Index for me. Her message back is below. Would anyone who is planning a visit to the PRO be willing to look up the papers for me? There is no urgency - just a question of confirming what I think I already know. Many thanks Susan in England Hello Susan Here is the inquest, maybe someone from the mailing list might be visiting the PRO office [I am too far away unfortunately] to get this for you, or perhaps they may be able to look up a paper for you in the library, again I am too far away from a library with papers. Hi All, Just new to the list and thought I'd list my interests. Researching the descendants of John TAYLOR and Elizabeth WARDLE. They married in Pontville Tasmania in 1842 and then later travelled to Victoria. On a daughter's marriage certificate in 1864, they were listed as residents of Violet town. Children of John and Elizabeth (Wardle) TAYLOR are - 1. John James TAYLOR married Emily Sophia De Gill in Buddabadah NSW 1874. 2. Rose Hannah TAYLOR married Peter Bown HARRIS in Violet Town Vic 1864. 3.Mary Ann died young. 4. Elizabeth Mary Ann TAYLOR married Thomas Peter HOGBEN Dandaloo NSW 1869. 5. Susan TAYLOR married Thomas MITCHELL in Dubbo NSW 1875. 6. John William TAYLOR married Margaret ZELL in Mudgee 1880. 7. Henry Edwin TAYLOR Just wondering if anyone has any connections to the TAYLORs,WARDLEs,HOGBENs or HARRIS families mentioned ( I believe they were all from around the same area). Also, if the parents died in Violet Town where would they have been buried? and are there transcripts for the cemetery. Thanks for your help, Sherryl Crowley _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com

Hello all, Hope that some kind person/people may be able to help me with the descendants of William Butler who was born 12 August 1872 in Bright, Victoria and is buried in Tallangatta Victoria. He married Bessie Regina Yaensch (has also been spelt Refina Bessie Yeusch) in Wentworth NSW in 1891. It was rumoured in the family that there were 21 or 22 children (a couple of sets of twins, etc) although not all children survived, and that the family lived in the Eskdale area. I'm not sure if the children were born in NSW or in Victoria. Would appreciate any help Cheers, Kerrie
