John BURLISON married Eliza PASCOE in 1871 at North Shields. Stayed in that area until the 1880's before moving to SA. I dont' know where the Yarrawonga thread is supposed to fit. Or if it does at all. Thank you Denise Not sure yet if it is mine, there was an 'Irish' Collier family (mine) and an 'English' one in Beechworth at around the same time. Sure leads to some confusion. Too sick to sleep, so here we go again Remember, please quote year, name and page if you want a look up 1870 P91 John Lloyd has been arrested by the Wangaratta detective police 20.4.1870 P92 Stolen Joseph R Crone Wangaratta P93 Stolen Robert Cristy Barnawatha Edward Clark Belvoir I am amazed that in nearly issue there are reports of newborns being murdered, or left "exposed", in water closets - door steps etc. Children up to age of 3 were repeatedly left "exposed" as the expression was. Here is one - WARNING - it's not nice. An inquest was held on the 21st instant at the Melbourne Hospital on the body of a male child, found on the afternoon of the 18th instant at the northeast corner of the CArlton Gardens. The jury returned a verdict of wiful murder against some person or persons unknown. The only covering consisted of a white calico slip body. The child was fully developed, and seemed to have been born while the mother was in a standing posture, and intentionally strangled with the navel-string placed around the neck. There were two slight cuts, one upon the scrotum, the other on the neck, the former apparently inflicted by a slip of the knife in severing the navel-string in the first instance, the latter by the insrtion of the knife between the neck and the navel string after strangulation; there was also a slight abrasion on the crown of th head as if from a fall. Death seemed to have occurred about 12 hours previous to the finding of the body It is immediately followed by another body of infant being found. No Denise I don't - I have a photo of the Honor Board and this is where I got the names - but there is a book written by someone in the northeast on the Lodge #14 - title eludes me, something about an old womans........ - will see if I can locate. Meanwhile if you want more the lodge itself may be able to help. We were just standing outside the lodge in Camp (opposite the BMuseum) one day when the doors opened and out came rotary or some club - one guy invited us in showed us Hiram's photo in the foyer, and then promptly got out the old minutes books for Hiram's time as Master. I didn't ask for a thing but it was all offered, and we were given the grande tour. Great people in Beechworth. Hi everyone I have traced my South Australian family back to Victoria. The thread is the family were around Yarrawonga, although this is only oral history, nothing concrete. Looking for John BURLISON who married Eliza Jane PASCOE. They later were around Chewton and Forest Creek before moving to South Australia. Have posted on Goldfieds list, but thought someone out there might have a thought. thanks Noeleen

Hi Everyone It will soon be the 92nd birthday of a family member who has supplied me with masses of info. As he was involved with gold mining in the Mitta/Tallangatta district I would like to obtain the following book for him but I can't track down a copy anywhere. I've tried all the major 2nd hand booksellers. Any ideas?? The days of gold: mining in the Tallangatta area / Tony Convey Thanks Pamela
Have you tried Alibris.com. Amazon.com uses them to find obscure books - and I recently ordered a book from them and found the service quick and efficent. I live in UK, so, like you would have, there were shipping costs - but it was much quicker than I had expected.
