    3. Well going by Noelene's description and enthusiasm for the sketcher, I think it is tempting to purchase on film - think it is available. Noelene - did it sketch people builidngs etc? Can you elaborate a bit for me please before I venture into purchasing one and then find it not suitable. regards and thanks Denise ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nandina Morris" <nandina@alphalink.com.au> To: <AUS-VIC-NE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 29, 2002 10:35 AM Subject: Re: [AVNE] "The Sketcher" > Thank you, Noelene. 3. Thanks Nandina I look forward to what you have found. Very much appreciated, and I am sure lots of us will get something from this. Thanks for the tip on the drink - my wonderful husband makes hot toddys for me - mainly so I don't keep him awake I think. Nothing hot and spicy has walked past yet. Look forward to the Carnival. 2. Noeleen LLoyd
    3. Nandina, 'The Sketcher' would most likely refer to "The Australasian Sketcher, with pen and pencil". Large format, monthly newspaper that was noted for its detailed art work. Published 1873-1879. The writer Thomas Carrington wrote for "The Sketcher". State library hold copies. There were also two volumes of reproductions done in around 1970. One had the years 1873 (not sure to when) and the other had 1880 - all the Kelly reports. The art work is fantastic. Denise - I have several print outs with Beechworth Carnival notes in them, but missed the best one with the names of the ball. Am going back in tomorrow (have to) so will also try to retrieve that. Lots of ads featuring the Carnival in their promos, I've printed off 1 front page with ads. Came across one para that photographs were taken for (in italics) 'The Sketcher'. As for the CC - most horses where mentioned stolen have a note of brand, some quite involved which I couldn't do on this keyboard. The dates I have given 1/10/1869 is the time of theft. 14/4/1870 is the date it was reported to Police Gazette. It was in April 20th 1870 Gazette. No 1989. It is only a snall book 52 pages. It was published in 1980 and the printers were Thomson Printing, 401 Kiewa Street, Albury 2640. It may be worth while contacting them to see if they have any copies or know where you could obtain one - they may even be able to put you in contact with the author who may have some left. Also since the forward is by Gordon F. Craig Chairman (in 1980) of the Albury Wodonga Development Corporation the Albury Family History Group may be worthwhile contacting. You never know.
