    3. Hi Denise, Dr Mueller initiated the use of strychnine as an antidote for snakebite and produced a small pocket kit containing a syringe , strychnine ,etc. Mr Trebilcock probably used one of these kits to treat his daughter. Yackandandah Historical Society should have one, it was sent to us from someone in Queensland many years ago when I was Secretary of the Society. Years ago we always carried during the " snake season" a small screwed together device containing a small lancet and Condy's Crystals. Apparently not very effective. Dr Mueller worked on the theory that snake bite kills by slowing heartbeat and blood circulation, and strychnine kills by speeding up heartbeat and circulation, so he devised small injections of strychnine to adjust the heart rate. 3. Taken from the Queenslander, Brisbane, Saturday, 16 January, 1892 http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hcastle/transcripts/bev_edmonds/transcripts/page13.html The following account of a case of snakebite was telegraphed to the Age on Sunday week from Yackandandah:-- On Wednesday the daughter of Mr. James TREBILCOCK, at Tawonga, 14 years of age, while walking through one of her father's paddocks, was bitten on the right leg by a large brown snake, the size of which may be surmised from the two punctures being fully a quarter inch apart. Mr. TREBILCOCK being close at hand with a horse and cart the girl was taken home. After a tight ligature had been tied above the bite, Mr. TREBILCOCK injected one-twelfth of a grain of strychnine, and as the symptons increased he injected another one-twelfth very shortly afterwards. The child then commenced to vomit freely, but had lost the use of her legs and could not see. These alarming symptoms determined the parents to start at once with their daughter for Yackandandah, a distance of thirty-five miles. Mr. TREBILCOCK took the precaution of taking antidote with him and it was fortunate that he d! id so, for during the journey the girl collapsed twice, and had to be aroused twice each time by an injection. She had rallied completely when the party reached Yackandandah, and Mr. TREBILCOCK had the satisfaction of learning from Dr. MUELLER that he had done as well as any medical man could have done under the circumstances, and that his daughter was out of danger, and was only required watching through the night. On Thursday morning the child was completely restored, and only showed the two punctures on the leg. There was no excision of the bitten part.

    3. Hello everyone interested in Greta Recently the Greta Cemetery Trust, of which I am a member, completed some significant additions to the Cemetery. The first is a memorial stone and plaque dedicated to the pioneering families and settlers of the Fifteen Mile Creek & Greta, many whom lie in the grounds. Secondly, two large stones have also been place to allow for families to place "name plaques" to honour their families. Each plaque will be 150 x 50cm, in a bronze finish. This size allows for a name and date ie LLOYD Family 1842-. If anyone is interested then they must arrange this through the cemetery. Please contact me off list for further information . A final price has yet to be set, this will happen in the next couple of weeks. The Trust will arrange to have them made and fitted. Finally a new fence and scrolled gates have been completed. The gates have a plaque attached in memory of Jack DINNING, whose family were early settlers and for the fact that Jack was Secretary of the Trust for 50 years. A simple dedication ceremony will be held at a date to be determined . If anyone has any queries please don't hesitate to contact me. I am happy to send photos to those who are interested. cheers Noeleen Lloyd

My grandmother, Rosetta Reilly born in Wahring (you may remember my earlier searches) married James Cock (Ararat), and that may help me fill in a lot of gaps in when and how Rose moved from one area to the other. If anyone has connections, especially to REILLY/Riley, MAHER/ or LEBROQ, I would be interested in exchanging info. Thanks, and good luck Merryl San Diego

    3. Hi all. Today my cousin who has most of the memorabilia of Hiram Crawford's emailed me with yet another piece of history. And I've finished my work! However, as tomorrow is the day with the printing company, I shall have to get to work and add some more data to the history of the property, Brookfield. On top of this a major staff member of Crawford & Co. turns up! In 1890 Hiram built sleeping quarters for the regularly employed men. Into the foundations of this building in 1890 while it was being built, my grandfather, son of Hiram, put a handwritten document. This document was found in 1948 - 58 years later. It explained who built the quarters, carpenter and labourer. It also gave a list of employees at the time and their job on the farm. Below are the names. Anyone interested get in touch I'll give you the job description. If you have a connection I would love to know a bit about that person, where he was born and lived. Alfred Bussell, George Gray, Christie Farrish, John Allan, John Robinson, William Croucher, Herbert Ashton, Thomas Cullins, Herbert Smith, A. Croucher, James Allan, Oliver Whiteside, James McDonald, Richard Wallace, Alex Cabrera. Inside the house were - Rose Ward and Hannah Home. regards Denise

    3. Hello Robyn, I know it no longer exists, but I have a very vague recollection of it in the early 1940s. I was very young, and am probably wrong, but I think it was in the Olive, Kiewa, or Smollett Street area. I'd suggest a letter to the Albury Historical Society, C/- Albury City Library, Dean St, Albury 2640. They will almost certainly have a record.
