    3. Dear Denise, My g.g. grandfather, William Halliday Thompson, was born near Dumfries in Scotland. He migrated to Canada and lived there for a time. He then came to Australia for the gold rush. He married Mary McGibbon Paton and bought some of the first properties in Mitta Mitta township. Would Willaim fit your criteria? If so I can provide more information Regards Margaret Kennedy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Denise" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, April 23, 2005 6:41 PM Subject: Re: [AVNE] Americans and the North East > Corinne - that will be fantastic thank you - as for the Dynamic Duo - > Chris did that, sounds like something that goes in the washing machine! > > D > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Corinne Thompson" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Saturday, April 23, 2005 5:30 PM > Subject: [AVNE] Americans and the North East > > >> >> Hello "Dynamic Duo", >> >> I have one for you, a William Alexander BLAKE, from Cincinatti. >> He and his first wife, Elizabeth Rogerson were have children in Seymour, >> Yea >> etc. in the 1880s. 3. Hi Laurette Did somebody help you? If not, I can recommend the Rutherglen Historical Society (they were great to me) and have their contact details if you wish. Kind regards Robyn -----Original Message----- From: Peter Gerholt [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, 14 April 2005 6:48 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [AVNE] Address of ggrandparents at Rutherglen Seeking advice as to where I can access information as to where my ggrandparents lived in Rutherglen. From an excerpt in an obituary notice on my ggrandmother, it states: On Monday morning another of Rutherglen's old identities passed away in the person of Mrs Annie Goldsworthy, relict of the late John Goldsworthy, of Chiltern Road, at the fine age of 72 years. The deceased, who was a resident of the State for 55 years, was among the first settlers on the Rutherglen goldfields, coming with her late husband, who followed the fortunes of mining for years, but as old age began to tell on him he planted a small vineyard on the Chiltern Road, near Mr J Kelly's, where the old couple lived for a number of years. This notice was in 1908. I have looked in the electoral roll for Rutherglen and it confirms they were on the Chiltern Road in 1899. John was a miner and he worked the quartz reef situated on Schwarer's Hill, and also at a later date had a good claim on Campbell's line of reef, but I don't know if these mines were in the Rutherglen area. Grateful for any help. Laurette

    3. Good afternoon all After deliberation, we have decided it was time to reveal to you all our latest project; a project never before undertaken. As many of you are aware, Denise has over the past 6 years tracked her Hiram through his many adventures, his family, his successful business ventures, the one most familiar to us all - his coaching firm. Along the way it became obvious to Denise that many men like her American born Hiram came to Australia and contributed to the development of this colony, in particular Victoria, in the Northeast. A lengthy list of men has been collected (and continues to grow). These men have either been born in the US or Canada, or at some stage lived in America. For whatever reason, they migrated to Australia during the gold rush days and either settled in the Northeast, Vic area, or perhaps only lingered for a short time, having made their fortune and perhaps then returned to their native land. Quite some time ago, Denise asked for my help in tracking these men and ultimately, compiling a 'story' on each. A huge challenge, but at the same time proving to be extremely interesting and rewarding. Oh my gosh, my undercover operations have just been revealed!! We believe these are the 'forgotten ones' in the history of Northeast Victoria, and no matter how large or small, their contribution has played a valuable role in shaping what we have today. We are now seeking anyone who may have ancestors who fall within our 'guidelines' or have men who served in the Civil War to make contact. Our current list is lengthy; so we may already have your man.....we are happy to share what we have with those who think there maybe a connection. In exchange we would hope for mutual sharing. In some cases, for the men and women we have so far tackled, we have made contact with descendants of the family or their siblings, in America and Canada. Our aim is to have not only a valuable resource tool, but also a wonderful read ready for the public sometime in 2006, although at times this seems most unrealistic!!! We shall look forward to the rush of emails, however please understand our task is enormous and we have not yet tackled all those on our list. To that end, we cannot guarantee at present that we hold that vital piece of information you may have been looking for. Denise & Chris aka The Dynamic Duo....!!(g)

    3. Hi Karen I am not researching the Romero family, but according to the Albury Burial register there are 26 Romero's buried at Albury. Among them is a Francis died 6.7.1905, buried 7.7.1905. (No age stated) A FUNERAL NOTICE in the Border Morning Mail dated 7.7.1905 read - The friends of the late Francisco Romero are respectfully invited to attend his funeral. The cortege will leave his late residence Macauley Street at 3 pm today. JS ADAMS, Undertaker. Could this be his wife, Elizabeth died 31.12.1902, buried 2.1.1903, age 71 another Elizabeth died 10.10.1934, buried 12.10.1934 aged 70. The three are buried in the Old Pioneer Cemetery. If you would like the details of the other 24, let me know. Hope this helps. Goorambat is about 15-20km north of Benalla, and Nathalia is a fair bit away being about 90 km north west of Benalla via Shepparton. For a map showing Goorambat look at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/AVNE/Towns/map-delatite.html#top However, I don't know of any Kingston in the area and would think it is most likely the one near Creswick (in the Ballarat area). The marriage took place at Goorambat (? - writing hard to read) on 10.9.1890. The groom was born Stockyard Hill Beaufort and the bride at Kingston. The usual and present residence for each was the same, that is Benalla for the groom and Goorambat for the bride. Is anybody interested in this couple? Can anybody help me with how close the three towns mentioned are? That is Benalla, Goorambat and Kingston? Also how close is Nathalia to these towns? Help would be appreciated, Janet in Sydney
