    2. Nelson & Livingstone
    3. Hi List I am new to the list and new to Victorian research generally, having only just hit upon the fact that many of my family were actually in Chiltern before they went to Wagga NSW and Bourke NSW. So I am interested in 1. tips any of the experts from your list might give me on Victorian research generally - for instance, is their a Post Office Directory which would cover Chiltern in the period 1855-1875? What other publications would you advise me to look at? 2. Is there a good general history of Chiltern I should be looking at? 3, Would anybody out there have come across the name WARMOLL (WORMALL, WORMOLL) or TULLY (TULLEY). I have lots of births and a death and marriages which place the family in Growlers Creek, Chiltern, Indi, Buckland, Lockwood. Thanks in anticipation. Any tips would be gratefully received. Cheers Jill

DO they match with any of yours? cheers jon Date: Thu, 14 Apr 2005 10:32:58 +1000 From: "Mary Conway" <[email protected]> Hi Lesley - I've been trying to find an Alex Duncan - believed to be an Engineer at the Asylum, who was later at the Yarra Bend Asylum. Have found a David Duncan - Engineer by searching children at the Primary School (I'll have to check the dates) - maybe some connection. My Grand Mother was born in B'worth 1879 and we believe went to Melb. to live with her Uncle after her mother died - Alex Duncan - but we have no details / timing My G.G. Mother was Minnie Hennessey b1849 Cork, Ireland d1886 B'worth - She came out in 1852 or thereabouts - so looking for some connection between Duncan and Hennessey. I was wondering if there is anyone out there that may be able to put a name to some of these. Some of the Duncan christian names are John, William and Hector. 1. Cross referenced registrations
    2. Christine
    3. Hi all Some general information which I hope will clarify why sometimes we see bdm registrations cross referenced. It is a simple matter of when the paper work reaches the Registrar. ie the event may have occurred in 1860 but not registered until 1865 so we would see 2 entries thus 1860 1234x1865, (1860=yr of event, 1234 regn#,1865=yr of registration) 1865 1234 (the year of registration & regn#) This does NOT indicate the event was registered twice or re-registration has occurred. There will ever only be the ONE certificate. I guess delays in getting the paper work to the official department occurred for various reasons in the early days of colonisation. We must be thankful the majority did reached the destination & for those that took 'a little longer' be thankful that they did get there.... eventually. Regards Chris

It's a long story which I won't go into now except to say I have been researching David GEDGE and his two fellow accused Elizabeth SCOTT and Julian CROSS for more years than I care to think about. I am writing a book about the case. They were all charged and found guilty of murdering Elizabeth's husband, Robert SCOTT at Devil's River. It's a very sad tale. I'm attempting to locate a photograph of David GEDGE, hence am tracing all sorts of relatives etc. Ann GEDGE seems to have disappeared sometime after 1863.
