Thanks to Pat Walters of Queensland, an error in the transcription of a burial in the Yackandandah Cemetery records has been found. Anyone with a copy of the CD is requested to alter the record (Number 32) of the burial of William CONNOLLY, aged 5, 16 August 1860 to Mary. All other details of the burial are correct. The error was made in the transcription, but despite my efforts it has passed my cross-checking, for which I apologise. Also please note that the father of James CONNOLLY aged 12, who was buried on 20 Dec 1862, was Patrick Connolly (not James or John). Oh dear. We (some of us) are but human. Peter Ross

Hi All, I am researching a Victorian 19th century criminal case. In the trial manuscript one of the witnesses said that she encouraged the wife to get the local magistrate to authorise her husband's admission into hospital. Now the husband was ill in bed and my question is: Was it normal for a wife in 1863 to have to get a magistrate's permission before her husband could be admitted to hospital? I should stress the husband was physically ill, not mentally ill. Any thoughts/comments will be gratefully received. Anne Hanson [email protected]

Hi Does anyone have the name BULMER in their tree. I am looking for a Mary Bulmer, apparently born England, raised in Sydney but must have lived in Albury-Wodonga northeast Victoria area mid 1850s. She left Australia in 1862. regards Denise
Not to my knowledge Russell. Henry was born in Prahran and the scant info on his father is that he was from NSW. It's not a twig I've chased up on - will have to do so one day. Denise and John, I have not had a chance to re visite my ROWE branch for ages but from memory they came from around the Timor Creswick area. Any possible connection? Denise, Sorry but no connection that I know of. I don't have anything on those you mention. Hi Anne, could you please get in touch with me about Bevan and the coach run you once asked about I've just found a contract they won. regards Denise
Hi Listers, Is there anyone who can assist me with the name of a Guesthouse in the above area which was run by a family called RICHARDS. I understand from what I have been told that a Mr Richards, who ran the guesthouse with his wife, was drowned in a boating accident with his brothers about 1929. Apparently their boat was recovered near Mt Martha but the bodies were never found. Any help as to how I could find the name of the Guesthouse or information about the family or boating accident would be very much appreciated. I live in South Australia and it is unlikely that I'll be in Melbourne in the foreseeable future to access any records that might be of assistance. Hoping that, as in the past, there is some kind lister who can come to my aid. May I add that this message is cross-listed. Cheers to All, Coral SE.SA
Hi John, good luck with your research on the Wood, and great news about Malcolm wasn't it. I wonder if your Rowe family is connected to mine - Henry John Rowe born Prahran 1857 to William Rowe and Sarah Jones. Other children of William and Sarah - Elizabeth Rowe and Sarah Jane Rowe (b 1859 and 1861) Henry married Catherine Haeffner in 1881 and ran the Star Hotel Beechworth during the 1890s while Wm Carrol was owner. regards Denise > whether they might be connected with the WOOD family below with which I > have a connection. I heard on the ABC this morning Malcolm WOOD interviewed on the recent release of brother Doug in Iraq. He mentioned that three of the brothers had had a reunion in Beechworth a few years ago which made me wonder whether they might be connected with the WOOD family below with which I have a connection. Is anyone related to Bevan the coachman circa 1855-66? I have a report in OMA if anyone wants to have a look at the paper....long report, I am happy to look up names, but won't have time to type the report. March 17th 1866. Tells of the sinking of the ship on which Mr. and Mrs. Bevan of Beechworth were - lists all the passengers. All but 19 reported to be lost. "The London" left London for Australia. Denise
Thank you so much to Penelope, Bob Jones and Robyn Kane for your welcome advice. I've now got some new sites to check out!! Cheers, Cherry
Hi All, Am hoping that somebody has access to the above named publication compiled by Margaret Chapman. If you do please contact me off list. Thank you. Anne Hanson [email protected]
Would anyone local have access to the Kyabram newspaper for the year 1889 and could do a lookup for me? Mary FITZPATRICK died at Kyabram 29 Jul 1889 and was buried 31 Jul. Her death certificate says she was buried at Tongala cemetery but they have no record of her being buried there. I am hoping that there might have been some mention in the local paper of the time. To anyone who has a spare minute, I'd like some advice on researching U.K. ancestors. Like most of us, my tree has reached the Scottish/Irish/English generation, and I don't know how to get a copy of BDM Ref. #'s. On her website, Joy Murrin mentioned a GRO Index (St. Catherine's Index) - I'm wondering if anyone local has access to this Index. Any suggestions would be very helpful, Thank you, Cherry Smith
