Hello AVNEsters, One of the list's member, Kaye Patterson, had done a lot of research work in the past centring around the areas of Greta, Nyrrhee and Winton which she had on the web. Unfortunately, the webhosting arrangement changed, so rather than the public lose access to the research material, we have moved Kaye's pages to the AVNE website. For those with an interest in the areas mentioned, you can find a link to it of the main AVNE homepage at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/AVNE/ or (for the less adventurous) you can go straight to it at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~surreal/AVNE/Kayes-pages/kayes-pages.html Thanks to Kaye for her research and for keeping it available on the web for use by other researchers. Cheers Peter

Hi all, Elizabeth Luckett (a minor) married Robert Simon Scott at Goomalibee Station near Benalla in December 1853. This marriage was a marriage by licence. What is confusing me is that the marriage certificate shows the that the person who gave consent for the marriage was a Daniel BOYD whose signature was by his mark. Now as far as I am aware, Daniel BOYD was not related to Elizabeth LUCKETT in any way shape or form and her mother lived in Melbourne with Elizabeth's 3 sisters. I'm looking for clues as to who this Daniel BOYD may have been. Any assistance would indeed be appreciated. Thanks. Anne Hanson [email protected]
Thank you to all who offered advice and lookups. I now have the information. Jackie Q

I was sent years ago a photo copy of a photo which has at least 60 people in it with O'Sullivan's Hop Pickers Annual Ball 1934. There is no name or any other details on the back. I can only assume its a family photo from my relatives who lived in Chiltern and surrounding areas. Someone on the list may know of this Company Cheers Kathryn

Hi Anne and any others interested. From Victorian Squatters by Spreadborough and Anderson. Honeysuckle Creek first licenced to Mitchell Forbes Scobie either Oct 1847 or Oct 1846 (ie first licences in NSW). Area 64,000 acres. Nov 1861 sub into Honeysuckle North and Honeysuckle South. Last licence for Honeysuckle North 1877 to Willilam Denning Crocker of Violet Town. area 32,300 in 1869. Honeysuckle South last licence to Oriental Bank Corp in 1880. You cannot pick a selection date from this - you would need to look at the parish maps and pick the earliest freehold dates, and from them look at the files to work out where selection started first, unless someone more on the ground up there happens to know. Depending on which act selection happened under would depend on if it was selection before or after survey. In the areas elsewhere that I have looked at, usually some parts of the run still existed while selection was happening on the run, and I see no reason to think this area would be different. Certainly licences were still being issued well after the Land Act of 1869, which would have seen selection on the run, although it possibly occurred in the best bits earlier. Linda >Re the above run in the Balmattum area, I'm interested in knowing when the >run was established (sometime in the 19th century) and when it was broken up >for land selection. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. I have 2 lines that married into the NANKERVIS family. Thought I'd have a peek to see how distantly related the NANKERVIS ones were and found the following on the Pioneer Index.... NANKERVIS, Wm Chas Hy. B. 1880 Wandeligon rego: 16202 Fa: Jno Mo: Cath STORY and...... NANKERVIS, William Charles Henry. B. 1880 Wandeligon rego: 9241 Fa: Jno Mo: Catherine Story Any idea why there would be 2 entries for the same person in the same year but have 2 different registration numbers ? They are not cross referenced. There are no deaths in that time frame for a William or Wm NANKERVIS that I can find with either of those parents and the correct age. I know someone is researching NANKERVIS and hoping that person can clear up this query. Thank you Jackie Q

Thelma, Thank you for your e-mail. Do you by any chance know anything of the ELLIS family who lived at Bald Hills, Balmattum? My reason for asking is that Jack ELLIS and I are working on his family history and we have a few loose ends. Hi Roz, The 1865 inquest I'm referring to is an inquest into the death of Ellen ELLIS who died in November, 1865 at Bald Hills, Balmattum. Thank you for your input re the Turnbull's - am not sure if there is a link at this stage but will keep your e-mail address. Hope the move went well. George's father Thomas TURNBULL owned the Broken Creek Run (1855), Emu Plains Run (1855), Mokoan Run (1866) and Upotipotpon Run (1855), which George and his brothers took over in 1873. I am not sure if I have any information in my files as to George's place of residence in 1863-1866, and unfortunately the family history is packed ready for our move at the end of the week. I will gladly have a look after I unpack, and will keep you posted of any findings. I would be interested to learn a little more about the Inquest.
