Hello listers, Is anyone researching the family of Francis BURNS and Margaret LYNCH? Looking for birth and marriage place of this couple. They were first sighted in Box Hill when child no. 5 died, but no clue where they came from. They had 8 known children with the last two born at Cranbourne and Koo Wee Rup where the family remained until at least 1907. Margaret died in January 1924 at Coburg and is buried at Fawkner but not with Francis. Her probate says that Francis was still alive in 1924 and I'm trying to determine (without buying the death cert) if Francis is the same Francis who died in Benalla. I know I could get all the answers from a later child's birth cert but trying to avoid this. Jenny
I found this site today. I typed in an ancestors name and something came up from an old newspaper. The site says "Welcome to Old News Copy. Searchable Australian news index. We are an information resource, providing copies of old newspaper articles, that we have indexed, from Victoria, Australia dating as far back as the 1800's. You are able to search our archives and if you see something you like, you can use our order form to purchase that particular article(s)." http://www.oldnewscopy.com/index.htm I have no monetary gain from this site! Hi Judy, I quote,"According to the Postal Directory, Matt Ryan (owner of allotment 208) had the "Farmers Arms Hotel". This was probably on the north west corner of the township. Matthew Ryan was one of the first fifteen people to open a Bank account in Dookie. Do you by any chance have a copy of the book Dookie the years to 1988? it has a very large amount of info on the Ryan families that lived there. I did not see too much on Matt Ryan though. Hi Kathryn. Ivy died at Malvern in 1982 (Vic Regn No 07196). I'm not at all sure why, but her name rings a bell with me. My mother trained at the Homeopathic (later Prince Henry's) in the late 1920s, and I'm wondering if that's the connection. Her name then was Frances McDonald. Cheers, Peter Ross ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul & Kathryn Lucas" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, August 04, 2005 10:28 AM Subject: [AVNE] Frances set the house on fire at Murmungee ! plus more > I have a story written by Ivy Elmer in 1980 re her life in Murmungee and > Beechwoth late 1800's early 1900's > > Our scanner has crashed so will scan it was soon as I can. > She mentions > Jones, Elmer, Ellen, Kneebone, Vicar Mr Taylor and life at Murmungee school > etc. > > She also mentions my great Auntie Frances Jones burning down the house! > > Ivy then talks about her life as a nurse and owner/matron of a few > hospitals in Victoria > She talks about the working mens college (now RMIT) , Victoria coffee > palace, Uxbridge house, Clifton Hill, South Yarra, Winfield nursing home, > her nursing days at Eye and Ear hospital, Homeopathic (Now Prince Henrys), > Clevedon mansions (Now Hilton Hotel), Jyn Jyn cafe, Exhibition building used > as a hospital during an epedimic, Nurse Long, Dr Hendricson, Dr Killmier, > Thornbury Hospital, St Aidans (which Ivy Elmer ran), She did nursing from > 1913 to 1968. > I am not sure the date Ivy died but after 1980 (Would appreciate a look up > for her death date parents Samuel Elmer and Frances Jones) > Regards > Kathryn
Does anyone have any information at all on the Farmers Arms Hotel at Dookie North. It was run by Matthew Ryan, the years would have been 1870-1880's. This is all the information I have so far. I don't want any of the Ryan BDM's just if someone know anything about the years at the Dookie North Hotel. Regards Judy
I have a story written by Ivy Elmer in 1980 re her life in Murmungee and Beechwoth late 1800's early 1900's Our scanner has crashed so will scan it was soon as I can. She mentions Jones, Elmer, Ellen, Kneebone, Vicar Mr Taylor and life at Murmungee school etc. She also mentions my great Auntie Frances Jones burning down the house! Ivy then talks about her life as a nurse and owner/matron of a few hospitals in Victoria She talks about the working mens college (now RMIT) , Victoria coffee palace, Uxbridge house, Clifton Hill, South Yarra, Winfield nursing home, her nursing days at Eye and Ear hospital, Homeopathic (Now Prince Henrys), Clevedon mansions (Now Hilton Hotel), Jyn Jyn cafe, Exhibition building used as a hospital during an epedimic, Nurse Long, Dr Hendricson, Dr Killmier, Thornbury Hospital, St Aidans (which Ivy Elmer ran), She did nursing from 1913 to 1968. I am not sure the date Ivy died but after 1980 (Would appreciate a look up for her death date parents Samuel Elmer and Frances Jones) Regards Kathryn
