    1. 19th century marriage consent forms
    2. Anne Hanson
    3. Hello All, My query is in relation to 19th century marriage consent forms. A Betsy LUCKETT married a Robert Simon SCOTT on 18 December, 1853 (see below). Digger - Pioneer Index. Victoria 1836-1888 Surname: SCOTT Given Names: Robert Simon Event: M Spouse Surname/Father: TUCKET Spouse Gvn Names/Mother: Betsy Age: Sex: M Birth Place: Death Place: Year: 1853 Reg Number: 25711 Denomination: Church of England Parish: KILMORE Fiche: 375 I have a copy of this early church record and note that the marriage is by licence and that the consent is given by a Daniel BOYD. Now my question is, are 19th Victorian consent forms held by any Victorian government authority and if so, have they been indexed or transcribed? Elizabeth SCOTT went on to become the first woman to be hanged in Victoria and I’ve been researching her case for many years. Daniel BOYD does not appear to have any genealogical connection to Elizabeth SCOTT and I’m wondering how it came to be that he could give consent to the marriage. I understand that in Victoria in 1853 that persons who could give consent were a father, or if the father was dead, a guardian or if no guardian, a mother if living and unmarried. If no mother, a guardian or guardian could be appointed by the Supreme Court. Now if Daniel BOYD was appointed as Elizabeth’s guardian by the Supreme Court, have you any idea where I could find record of same? Cheers Anne Hanson

    1. Names - 1853
    2. Denise
    3. Some of these names have definitely been found in the north-east. Some are names familar to us as north-east names, but not of course, necessarily the same people as those given below. These people came on a ship to Melbourne which is NOT listed in the PRO. This is only part of the ships list, more will be sent through next week. In total there are 225 names. If any are familar or known to you, and you think yours may have come via USA, please get in touch by Sunday, we are happy to share what we know. Many people travelled to Australia via America, from Germany England Ireland etc, so if you haven't found your shipping, perhaps this may be it. Please note the spelling stays as per list from ship, we have not made adjustments even to those we know. To save typing we are listing only the surnames, so please get in touch with either of us, if you think there is a chance, by Saturday. If we get any replies we will answer these, then post the next lot. Some names will be duplicated during the posts, simply because they came on board at different times. regards Chris and Denise Bradley - Hilton - Neiel - Backford - Marston - Spaulding - Smily - Leighton - Morse - McCarty - Luce -. 3. Way back in 1980 I started to research my family. Bits of information were gathered very slowly. In those days I had to write letters and post them , some even had to be sent by Airmail and then I had to wait for a reply ! Over the years I have put my Genealogy research to bed and vowed never to touch it again! Then things got a little better people got the internet. Still some branches of the tree were hard to find. One such branch lived in SA so information was scarce on documents. Since 1980 I have not been able to get much information on the Cook family. Then the mailing lists changed everything! In a space of one month (in 2005) I find my Cook relatives from all over. A friend of my relative saw my posting, recognised the name and within a week I was speaking to my 85 year old cousin who had photos and information to share! I then found my other Cook members by writing to a local family history society. I will now have to go on a road trip around Australia to meet all my "new" relatives. Cheers Kathryn

    3. I have 5 deaths all registered within 20 numbers of one another. I am trying to find where these men died (all from the same area in their homeland) by thinking of what may have happened in 1854. I am assuming that by the closeness of the registrations numbers they were together or at least in the same area. If the numbers were not so close I wouldn't worry. I may be wrong. But try I must. We had Eureka. We had mining accidents, We had Colonial Fever in Buckland in 1854. It was known as Buckland River/ Buckland Valley when gold was found there in late 1853. One of the deaths I know occurred there was not registered. But it has nothing to do with the other 4. The death occurred during the Fever, so this proves many may have died without any registration at all. I am hoping that not ALL deaths went unregistered. The 5 I have no place of death recorded. So I am hoping someone has a death of some in their tree/research who died there and they have found this place by having the death certificate itself. I am working thru the obvious places which have occurred during the timeframe of my research and Buckland is definitely up there. It's a long shot, but stranger things have happened. Denise

    3. Denise, there are no deaths recorded for Buckland before 1881 in the Pioneers Index so it was probably known by some other name before then. Looked at Porepunkah (2 in 1888) and Ovens as Porepunkah was originally known as Ovens Crossing (1 also in 1888). No deaths for Brookside (half way between Porepunkah and Buckland) or for its earlier name Devils Creek, John Sebire Denise wrote: >Hi everyone > >Wondering if anyone has a death which occurred in Buckland in 1854 and would let me know the registration number please. > >I have 5 deaths in 1854 and the registration numbers are all within 20 numbers.
