Good morning Ruth, I am not able to help you much with your research, other than to say there is a Hardings Road north of the Mitchell River in what is now State forest. At one time I believe it was a farming area, as a few years back I came across old fence lines in the bush. The western end of Hardings Road is adjacent to the road that leads tto the old Mitchell Weir that was built in the mid 1880's. Back in the late 1970's there was a Bruce Caugh that worked for Riviana Australia and had early family connection to this area. I think Bruce lived somewhere east of Melbourne like Narre Warren or the like. Sorry that I can't be more specific. Hi everyone, I am researching the Caughey family of Iguana Creek and Grant in Victoria. John Caughey was born in 1836 in County Down Ireland and had 10 children with Annie Eliza Shaw. I am interested if anyone knows of Louis Rowley Caughey (b. 1884, d. 1948) who married Annie Jorgensen in 1913. They had a store in Fernbank at some time and Louis had a race horse in the 40's. I believe also they had a young girl Elly Hope Egan living with them in 1923 I would like to know more about these things, if anyone could offer some help it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Ruth Caughey
Hi everyone, I'm currently researching the Caughey family of Iguana Creek and Grant Vic. John Caughey born 1836 in County Down Ireland had 10 children with Annie Eliza Shaw. The last son James William Morgan Harding was raised by neighbours Mr and Mrs J Harding of Walpa. I am interested to know if anyone out there can tell me about the Hardings, where they came from and maybe even if they know anything of where James ended up. Regards Ruth

Hi to all The previous message on this list detailed a site for leaving church photos. The webmaster is now adding Lindenow to that site with photos of St Canices and St Martins Churches. What is needed is a photo of the Uniting Church (formerly Presbyterian ) before the newer brick building went up .Perhaps someone has one they could add to the site. Hello Everyone, This is to let everyone know of a useful site available for Australian researchers. The site is OzGen and holds the Australian Surnames Forum which allows uers to post their genealogical surname interests for every state in Australia, including Victoria. It also holds the Church Photo Project, with the aim of getting photos of every church in Australia and also has useful genealogical information for each state in Australia. The website is: http://www.oz-gen.com Kindest Regards, Chani Webmaster, oz-gen.com
I have found out that one householder in Lindenow admits to having water flow through their house during recent rains. In fact a hole had to be knocked in a wall to release water from the house. Scary stuff when you think of it! A flood in Lindenow township! Many roads were covered and some impassable for a while. While on the subject of water, some may not know that a new water main is in the process of being installed from the Mitchell River up into the town. It has progressed almost un-noticed along Ross Rd and has nearly reached the Bainsdale Dargo Road. Mat --------------------------------- Find local movie times and trailers on Yahoo! Movies.
Thank you Mat for giving a wake up call. I am interested in a SMITH family who farmed at Lindenow in 1869. I do know the SMITHS Charles and Eliza(beth) had a daughter, Annie Isabella, who died in 1870 and is buried in Bairnsdale. Charles and Eliza subsequently returned to Derbyshire, England with other children. Does anyone have knowledge of this family please ? Doreen Doreen & Addy Doncaster

Oh Dear, I went looking for more information about the recent heavy drought breaking rain in the Lindenow district and came across this site . Oh dear how sad !!! There must be people out there with stories to pass on. What about current events that will soon become history. What about the rain ! Reports have given the area as having up to 200mm in 36 hours. I have been assured by locals that in Lindenow itself there was a reading of 215mm. Someone out there surely has a tale to tell of the effects of all that water. Hi, I am trying to find info on my father's first wife, her name was Rita Nellie (nee Chandler) FULTON. Rita could also be spelt as Reta, she was born in Lindenow in 1919 and died in 1957 in Prahran (not sure if correct spelling), her parents were William Frederick CHANDLER and Lavira or Lavinia WATKINS. Rita married my father in 1940 at Lindenow, but I can't verify this as the BDM's for Victoria only go up to 1919. My father's name was John Trollope FULTON b 1920 Warrnambool & d 1979 Brisbane. There was a daughter I think her name is Elizabeth Leonora FULTON born abt 1940, this is all I know about her. Thanks In Advance Kas Foster (nee FULTON)
Hi Listers, Yes we are just lurking Peter. My surname interests are: William & Mary Ann HAPPERLEY (sometimes Apperley) and their descendants. Mary Ann is buried at Coongulmerang cemetery but I cannot find a death record for William. They had 13 children. Their daughter Harriet (my g.grandmother)married James SOMERVILLE. I have been unable to find how William arrived in Australia although he and Mary Ann were married in Tarraville in 1850 and moved to Lindenow in the mid 1860's. If anyone has any information on either of these names (no matter how small) it would be greatly appreciated I have a brick wall as to what happened to William Happerley and also to James Somerville(? died prior to 1895) as I can find no death record for either. Best wishes to all, Eileen Forscutt _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
