Hi Karen, Thank you for your reply. I cannot see Your Ellen in the family, but as there are a very large family from SA, namely Noarlunga, I have no doubt she would fit in there somewhere. The Alfred Ernest I want to find was born in Victoria. Thanks anyway. Fellow genealogists, Have you ever used the Internet to learn about genealogy methods and resources? Taken a genealogy course online? Read some 'how to' articles? Then I would like to hear from you. I am an Australian Ph.D. student who is currently writing a book chapter for an academic Virtual Learning Environment publication - my chapter is about using the Internet for genealogical education. I would therefore love to hear from you, fellow genealogists, about any Internet-based content you've used for genealogy education. This includes online courses (free or fee), how-to's, articles/columns, newsgroups, BBS, chat, mailing lists, forums, or even personal web pages that publish learning material - anything online that helps you in learning the craft of genealogy. Your comments on the following is of utmost interest: What are your favourite learning outlets on the Internet? How often do you use them? Can or did you find what you needed online? What are your learning successes? What could be better? What do you look for in genealogical learning on the Internet? If you would like to participate, your comments are extremely welcome. Please send your comments to me directly at research@veale.com.au before Saturday 1st May 2004. I thank you in advance for your participation in this academic research. Kylie Veale P.S. Names and email addresses will be protected and are therefore not included in the publication. Copies of the paper will be made available to interested participants on request, after the book has been published. ----------------------------------------------- Kylie J. BlankHas anyone looked at the headstone records of the "three existing cemetery parks in Victoria that were converted from cemeteries under existing laws : the Old Seymour Cemetery, Will Will Rook Cemetery, Broadmeadows and Oakleigh Cemetery." If not, we _urgently_ need someone to look at them. We need to know if and how these records were made. Can anyone do this ? The reason for knowing this is, once the government's method of headstone recording is established and found "wanting", this would give you an opportunity to improve their method of recording. It would also give you a reason for contacting Ms Pike direct (if you haven't done so already) and be seen to be helpful and constructive. Hi All I trust everyone had a Happy Christmas. I would like to wish you all a peaceful, healthy, and prosperous New year. Regards, Ray.
>From Dianne Carroll. I have an original of a 1901 Commemorative book that has illustrations of a framed signed certificates that were presented to the Duke of Cornwall & York from each City, Shire and Borough - making up the Municipalities of Victoria. Each certificate has the signatures of all the Mayors, Councilors and Secretaries of each, and most have a sketch of the Shire Office/Council building of the area - when not the building it has a commemorative scene. I have just put it onto CD - thought I would ask if anyone it interested to contact me personally at yarragon@iprimus.com.au For people that had ancestors serving their local council in 1901 it is a must. For others - they are a wonderful additive to the family history - denoting the Shire/Borough/City in which the family lived Regards Dianne Carroll ^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~ Dianne Carroll Victorian Alpine Regional Historian http://www.high-country-heritage.i.am/
Hi Raymond What a pity you have had to make this change to your procedures. It is doubtless an added burden on your available time. I, for one, am grateful to you for this and hope that in the not too distant future a solution to this problem can be found. Greetings To all List Members, Due to the large increase in spam and junk being sent to lists, I have taken the precaution in switching all Lists under my Administration back to manual control! This will not and should not have any effect to any of your posting to any of the lists you are a member of, the only thing that could be found to be slower is that if you know of someone who has requested to become a member of the list will have to now wait till I put them on to the list. Thanks for your attention and trust that you are all still enjoying your stay on the list. Yours sincerely, Raymond Henderson. List Administer
