    1. [AUS-Vic-History]Notice about Rootsweb Lists
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. This has been received from the Rootsweb administration: Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team If anyone has an interest in finding alternative communication possibilities and/or suggestions for alternatives, please send a note to the list to that effect ASAP. With heavy hearts, Jim and Di

    2. Jim Jackson
    3. I just wanted to encourage you all to make use of this list in your family searches. A large number of Rootsweb lists have been made inactive due to no messages over a period of time. We want to keep as many lists active as we possibly can and your participation will help toward that goal. If you have a "brick wall" in your family search, send in a message with as much information as you have and let's see if someone may be able to help fill in those blanks. Best Wishes, Jim

    2. Manaia Alofa
    3. Rootsweb mailing lists are automatic and are managed by list robots. These robots take care of subscription requests and bouncing (rejected) emails. The most frequently asked question of subscribers is: ***************** "Why have I been unsubscribed?" Answer: If your list mail cannot be delivered for any reason, the list robot unsubscribes you after a certain number of failed attempts. (For the AUS-VIC-HISTORY list the maximum member bounce score is: 3) This can happen for a number of reasons - some of the more common reasons are that your mailbox is full, your spam filter is blocking the list mail, your ISP is blocking list mail from Rootsweb, you have put an automatic responder on your email.... If you were unsubscribed and did not wish to be taken off the mailing list, simply subscribe again. However be forewarned that if whatever caused the list robot to unsubscribe you the first time is still happening, it will simply remove you again after a specific number of bounces--3--(rejected list mail to your email address). But as a courtesy to all AUS-VIC-HISTORY listers, I can re-subscribe you manually. Just let me know. ****************** Other questions asked are: "How do I unsubscribe?" Answer: Simply follow the instructions at the bottom of every list mail message. ****************** "Why is my mail not getting to the mailing list?" Answer: Make sure that you are sending from the same email you are subscribed under. The list robot does not recognize names. It only recognizes email addresses. If your sending email address is not on the subscriber list, your email will be rejected. ****************** "Why am I not getting list mail?" Answer: Check the HelpDesk notices in the yellow box for announcements about any technical problems with Rootsweb mail. http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ If you don't find the answer to your problem on the HelpDesk page you need to check if you are still subscribed to the list. You can get a list of all your subscribed to mailing lists from Password Central: http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ If Password Central doesn't include all lists to which you should be subscribed, re-subscribe to any lists that are missing from your subscribed lists by sending a new e-mail to: LISTNAME-request@rootsweb.com (replacing the word LISTNAME with the actual list name). Put only the word SUBSCRIBE in the subject and message body of your e-mail. ****************** Should anyone need further elaboration then you may give me--Yours Truly--a contact. 3. Hello Listers: Any concerns/questions, please contact: AUS-VIC-HISTORY-admin@rootsweb.com. To subscribe/unsubscribe: AUS-VIC-HISTORY-request@rootsweb.com. To subscribe in Digest mode: AUS-VIC-HISTORY-D-request@rootsweb.com. To send a message/post to the List: AUS-VIC-HISTORY@rootsweb.com. >>>>>> FYI Only <<<<<< Mode = manner/method/way. There are two modes in which to subscribe: 1. The -L mode. The "regular" mode now. All regular subscribers receive posts/messages made to the list as separate/individual emails. 2. The -D mode. The "digest" mode now. All digest subscribers receive posts/messages made to the list as one BIG email. .... If you previously subscribed to the list in both -L and -D modes using the same email address you will find that you are *no longer* subscribed inDigest mode. The new software doesn't permit the same address to be subscribed in both -L and -D modes. Therefore, if you wish to receive both modes, you will need to subscribe to the Digest using a different email address. Please give me a contact should anyone need further elaboration. .... 3. This is the first time I have posted to the Victorian mailing list, as you can see I have covered all bases, I apologise if it repeats for people. I have used a similar data base for my wife's Tasmanian connections 1. I have been told Janet Connell 1869 [daughter of Peter Connell and EdithaThomson] was a STEVENSON when she died. Who did she marry; where and when? Are there any children to this marriage? 2. What children are listed to Lena Connell 1878[daughter of Peter Connell and EdithaThomson] and William Thompson 2a. It has been suggested Lena may have been a West when she died, do you have any record of a second marriage 3. Year of death for Sidney Good Connell 1875 [son of Peter Connell and EdithaThomson] & also year of death for Lydia Ann Connell C1890 3a Any Children to the marriage of Sidney and Lydia. 4. Any Children to Ida Connell 1873[daughter of Peter Connell and EdithaThomson] and Arthur Baker. That's enough for this time Thank you for your help Greg
