Hi all Anyone know what year/s the 9 Mile Hotel was open out of Omeo? Likewise the The Alps Hotel at Lightening Creek. Thanks Denise
The Nine Mile Hotel was situated on the Omeo - Glen Valley Road, now known as the Knocker Track. Today the site is marked with a sign "Stayleville". Originally the building was the home of the Reeves Family and in 1891, the family decided to have the premises licensed to cater for the passing travelers. Firstly they applied for an Australian Wine License, but within two years applied for a full Victuallers License. The Knocker Track is very much the same today as it was last century and worthy of a drive. You drive through the Omeo Valley and turn to the left and proceed through the gate. This track takes you through to the Omeo Highway, between Glen Wills and the old site of Sunnyside. Although there is no relics of the site of the Nine Mile Hotel to be found today, older resident in the district can vividly remember the old chimney standing at the site some forty years ago.
Thanks Di, that gives me a starting point D ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dianne Carroll" <highcountryheritage@dodo.com.au> To: <AUS-VIC-HIGH-COUNTRY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, July 17, 2004 8:17 PM Subject: [HC] Nine Mile Hotel > The Nine Mile Hotel was situated on the Omeo - Glen Valley Road, now known > as the Knocker Track. Denise, The Alps Hotel was also known as the Austral Alps Hotel, somewhere I have a photo of it with a motorbike and sidecar, when it had a shingle roof. It features in the Mitta Mitta book from memory and somewhere I have the history of it but just can't put my mouse on it! Have a feeling I may have posted the history of it on the list several years ago, might be worth looking in the archives Regards Di ----- Original Message ----- From: "Denise" <denisem@powerup.com.au> To: <AUS-VIC-HIGH-COUNTRY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, July 17, 2004 8:06 PM Subject: [HC] Glen Wills - Knocker > Hi all > > Anyone know what year/s the 9 Mile Hotel was open out of Omeo? > Likewise the The Alps Hotel at Lightening Creek. > > Thanks Denise > > >
