    3. 23.10.1883 New Reefs. A new reef entirely distinct from those hitherto worked has been struck in the Pride and Stringer claim Hillsborough during the past few days. It is of good width and carries splendid gold and the shareholders are to be congratulation upon the prospects of the mine - Messrs Warren, Hyem, Lawrence, Lang,Bigelow, Bolam, J Duncan, Cheesman and Mathieson. Messrs J E Burbank and E Jessop last week discovered a new reef which they have named the Jaybird on the fall into Shepherd's Ck between the Sugarloaf and Stanley near Bowman's Forest. The reef which was struck at a depth of 35ft from the surface has been traced fro about 40ft and has every appearance of being permanent. It is from 9 - 12 inches in width and as gold is visible right through the stone it is expected to go from 2 -to 3 ounces per ton. - 25.10.83 Jaybird Reef looking better and better as it is being opened out. 2oz 8dwts of gold to the ton. 12oz 11 dwts of amalgam giving 7 oz 4 dwts of gold on being retorted. - Yackandandah Cricket Club those chosen to play Albury.
