Yackandandah Times Another old and respected pioneer of the district has gone to his eternal reward, in the person of Mr Archibald Hays who died at his residence, Osbornes Flat on Saturday 26th November at the advanced age of eighty eight years. The late Mr Hays was born at Bangor, County Down, Ireland, came to Australia at the age of nineteen years making him a colonist of seventy years. On arrival at Osbornes Flat he engaged in mining having joined what was called the Tail Race Mining Party at the lower end of Osbornes Flat with whom he worked for many years. Subsequently retiring from mining he engaged in farming. The late Mr Hays never entered into public life, he was a man of most regular habits, was widely known and highly respected of amiable charitable disposition. His wife predeceased him by twenty four years. He leaves a family of six: three sons James of Moonee Ponds, William and Archibald of Osbornes Flat. Three daughters Jane (Mrs. H. Smith) of Tallandoon, Mary (Mrs. P. Ha! rper) Tallandoon and Alice who worked and ministered to the wants of a devoted father to the end. His remains were interred in the Yackandandah cemetery on Sunday afternoon in the presence of a large gathering of friends and sympathisers. The Rev. S.J.Hill (Presbyterian Church) officiated at the graveside.
