    3. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to look up Marriage indexes for the 1950's on fiche in Vic like we are able to do in N.Z.? I've located two descendants (from a Vic death cert) but as they are both female I don't have their married names and would like to make contact with them. The last known address on the father's death cert has proven to be a dead end. Although I had a number of replies to the query I listed some 4 weeks ago regarding a photo I have. So far I haven't been able to identify the picture which is frustrating. Particularly since I have only one female left in the line to track down, and she is successfully eluding me! Now I'm grasping at straws! Any help would be appreciated. Carolynne (NZ)

    3. Carolynne The only thing I can suggest - if you know when they were married, and it was from a regional town rather than one of the cities, you could get a researcher to check the local paper from the area. Alternatively, you could get someone to check death notices on the father, as you have his death date, in the hope that they mention the daughters' married names, or look for an obituary which might give this detail. Once again, would be easier if in a regional town as more likely to have that information. Victorian regional newspapers are on file at the State Library and I am sure there are people on the list who can advise you of a researcher. I am not volunteering at the moment as my broken leg is keeping me deskbound. Another thought, if a regional town, you could write to the newspaper in that town and they might be able to help you. Lots of those towns have their own historical societies who might help, and perhaps if they were married from that town, the church may be able to help. 3. Thanks for your reply Glenda. No, I have no idea when the marriages would have taken place. According to the father's death cert the family lived at Templestowe. The father was buried at Fawkner. Grave purchase has been checked out but it gave no clues. I do hope your leg gets better soon & you're soon up and running like that wonderful horse Makeby Diva! Kind wishes, Carolynne. -----Original Message----- From: Glenda Matthews [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, 1 November 2005 11:07 p.m. To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [HC] Marriage indexes Carolynne The only thing I can suggest - if you know when they were married, and it was from a regional town rather than one of the cities, you could get a researcher to check the local paper from the area. 3. Thanks for your concern Carolynne. I keep thinking that I am better off than the horse Mummify, who about 3 weeks ago, broke both its front legs at the end of a race, and had to be destroyed. Regarding Templestowe, in the 50s it was an outer area of Melbourne, lots of orchards and market gardens. Pretty upmarket housing too, large alotments, tennis courts, etc. I am sure they would have had a local paper. Most areas of Melbourne do, and they are now mostly owned by a large group. In the Sunday Melbourne Sun Newspaper, they run a two page "searching for" letters page, where you can put a short message stating who you are looking for. I understand there is a few weeks queue, but might be worth a try. Good luck Glenda ----- Original Message ----- From: "kelsall" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, November 01, 2005 10:01 PM Subject: RE: [HC] Marriage indexes > Thanks for your reply Glenda. > No, I have no idea when the marriages would have taken place. > According to the father's death cert the family lived at Templestowe. > The father was buried at Fawkner. > Grave purchase has been checked out but it gave no clues. > I do hope your leg gets better soon & you're soon up and running like that > wonderful horse Makeby Diva! > Kind wishes, > Carolynne. > > -----Original Message----- > From: Glenda Matthews [mailto:[email protected]] > Sent: Tuesday, 1 November 2005 11:07 p.m. > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [HC] Marriage indexes > > Carolynne > The only thing I can suggest - > if you know when they were married, and it was from a regional town rather > than one of the cities, you could get a researcher to check the local > paper > from the area. > Alternatively, you could get someone to check death notices on the father, > as you have his death date, in the hope that they mention the daughters' > married names, or look for an obituary which might give this detail.
