Hi Kerry, I have this newspaper article (undated), which mentions the name Miss D. Piazza, any ideas of the timeframe? On Friday morning Mrs T. O'Callaghan, Miss D. Piazza and others were coming in to Myrtleford to catch the school excursion train when about two miles on the Myrtleford when about tow miles on the Myrtleford side of Mudgegonga they came upon an upturned drag on the side of the road with Mr.. Murray underneath. Both shafts were broken and the horse was standing by. The sufferer was made comfortable with rugs and word was sent to his family. Dr. Cooke was also sent for from Myrtleford. Dr. Cooke attended to Mr. Murray who was conveyed to his home. His family were in and out of the room and thought he was only sleeping soundly but at 4.30 p.m. it was discovered he had just passed away. Near the spot where Mr. Murray was found there is a culvert in a bad position, and the horse evidently turning slightly to the side of the road, the wheel had caught the corner of the culvert. Rhonda Was it DePiazza or Piazza? as both families exist in Myrtleford area. and what is the name of the newspaper? 1883 The railway line to Myrtleford was opened. 1900 Myrtleford's first newspaper The Mail was published 1925 The Mail was bought by the Wangaratta Chronicle. 1933 The Myrtleford Times began. De Piazza is Mudgegonga Piazza is Myrtleford. Mr Thomas O'Callaghan married in 1906 to Amelia De Piazza (born 1882) (son of Patrick O'Callaghan who had settled in Mudgegonga by 1873) (Thomas and Amelia didn't have a son Thomas) nor any of his brothers, He seems to be the only T. O' Callaghan) Amelia was the daughter of Battista De Piazza, who married Catherine O'Brien in 1870 at Beechworth and owned a timber mill at Stanley before selecting at Mudgegonga. So it has to be after 1906 and before 1940's, as Dr Beaumont was then local Dr for many years. Gordon Milne Murray died Myrtleford 1907 age 67, he was the only Murray to die Myrtleford between 1907 and 1913. So we can now narrow it down to a span of seven years.
