Pakenham Newspaper 8-6-1945 Mr James Hayes With much regret we record the fact that Mr. James Hayes, of "Meadow Downs", Kooweerup Road Pakenham, passed away at Pakenham and District Bush Nursing Hospital last Monday, after an illness extending over some weeks. Mr Hayes who was a retired Railways employee, was born at Yackandandah 75 years ago, and for several years past had resided at Pakenham. A man of very fine character, he was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him. We join with a side circle of friends in extending sympathy to his wife and daughter (Mrs. R.F..Gregory) in the great loss they have sustained. The funeral, which was private, took place at Springvale Crematorium on Tuesday afternoon. Mr.. L.W..Hatton conducted the service at the crematorium chapel. W.J.Garret and son carried out the funeral arrangements.
