Richard - the list has been so quiet these past months, I wonder if any of the regulars are still members. I've heard of Wendy, Lyn, Ronda, Chris, Peter, where is everyone else? With over 200 members as Di says, what happened to the other 190? Why not have a roll call and see how many listers are actually interested in connecting with others? What or who are you researching Robert? My interests in the northeast are the names I posted last week, plus from the 1800s Carboor Cheese Factory about which I know very very little Carboor Hotel (Forest Park Hotel) Coaching industry in the northeast and southern NSW Mining Wooragee, Everton, Beechworth, Woolshed, Chiltern and the Upper Murray area. I am also interested in learning about Americans in the northeast - the way my research has taken me I now wouldn't be surprised to find family other than Hiram, from America, in the area. Who else is game to list their interests. Denise
Hi Denise, I too am here, most of the time, plugging away at breaking down all the brick walls my ancestors appear to have built around themselves. They must have had a lot to hide. The Americans are the easiest for me, the history has been well documented in America but once they came here it has been harder to find. Most of my rellies were in the High Country around Omeo and involved in farming and goldmining. They were Sloan, Walter. Born USA. Forsyth, Helen, borm Scotland, married the above Walter. Many of the Forsyths were in the gold business and some were lucky. Forsyths were also prominent in Bright and all around that area. There is another branch of the Sloan family who were pioneers in that area, Isaac Sloan. So anything about Sloan, Forsyth families and their activities are of particular interest to me. I have just found, for the information of Sloan's on the list, the place where Grant Sloan died in South Africa in 1909. Thanks to Max Dyer, and his constant search for historical events, that I now have this info and hopefully follow it through to get a death certificate, and burial place. I have a lovely photo of his grave but there is not shred of evidence to suggest where it is. My dream would be realized if that were possible. ANY HELP with the difficult South Africa records would be most helpful. I too miss the friendly chat and banter on the List, also the information and the generosity of the Listers. It was always nice to get up and see a long list of emails waiting to be read. We all have other business to attend to and it is not so easy to make the time stretch to get everything in now days. I am sure that my advancing years also hold me back!!!!! Best wishes to all, Bev. -----Original Message----- From: Denise [mailto:denisem@powerup.com.au] Sent: Thursday, 11 November 2004 12:29 AM To: AUS-VIC-HIGH-COUNTRY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [HC] no messages Richard - the list has been so quiet these past months, I wonder if any of the regulars are still members.
