There is a James Smith mentioned in the history of Yackandandah School 1855-1991 by C A Mott - I don't have copy, perhaps someone else does. - There is an Obit of James Smith in Alpine Observer 3/1/1908 - he died December 31 1907 at Porepunkah - colonist of 58 years aged 83 years. Other Smiths mentioned in the district, George, Henry. Hi Denise, Thank you very much for these entries. I really appreciate your help. I have not as yet checked with the Bright Historical Society but shall look into that now. My problem is I am not sure whether he died in Sydney before they moved down, or even if the whole family lived in Tarnagulla and he died there before Ann and Annie moved on to Bright. Or if the family lived in Bright and Georgina moved out. So many variables! Maybe the best I can do is to collect all the possible James SMITHs. Maybe a death certificate may have some answers.
