Hello Marina, According to the Inquest CD this Catherine MURPHY died as a result of a ruptured blood vessel in Prahran. Digger - Inquest Index. Victoria 1840 - 1985 Surname: MURPHY Given Names: Catherine Place: Prahran Year: 1863 Reference: 279 Cause: Rupture Blood Vessel There may or may not be more information contained in the inquest notes, however I have always found them well worth looking at. Although this is a relatively early period in Victoria's history it would at least contain the doctor's deposition, possibly a deposition from the person who may have been nursing her or the person who reported her illness. There were hospitals in this area (and still are) so she may have been admitted to a hospital and if so there could be an admission report and a deposition from an attending nurse. At best she may be at her own residence and there could be a deposition from a family member. It would also be advisable to check for a will, which many times contain much information. Inquests and wills are ordered online from the PRO in North Melbourne and pages of the report can be ordered for 65 cents per page and postage is $2.75. I am quite happy to get these for you but am not going to North Melbourne this week, however they may be someone else on the list who is?? I have two inquest briefs from the 1850's and both include several statements from witnesses etc. Definitely worth getting from the PROV for the cost of photocopying and postage. It seems they took inquests quite seriously even back then.
