Denise My Baldwins were great travellers. Came originally from Long Island, New York. My ancestor Samuel Baldwin, son of William Baldwin was born in Boston (although some records say Virginia!). By 1840s the family had travelled west through Ohio, Kentucky and Missouri, reaching the Wisconsin goldfields. Samuel arrived in Sydney 1851, went to NZ for about 5 years, then back to NSW and Victoria. Thanks for the offer to look up BALDWIN in your book Simon
Simon, I have checked three books so far and the name only appears in the book written about the town of Oakham Ma and other towns when a family may have moved or married into. Will do more when I can - Simon what did your Baldwin do in North East Vic? I may be able to narrow down where to look if I know. If it is here, it could be in one of many places. The Baldwin names are - Baldwins of Spencer (all with surname Spencer unless otherwise shown) John William Zerubbael (Zorobbabel) of Spencer Joseph of Malden, Charlton of Spencer Joseph of Malden Joseph of Mildford William and Mary (Howland) m - Sarah Elizabeth Holt (dau of George Gates Holt) then m- Ruth A Prouty of Oakham George Holt Philip BTW Simon this entry references Baldwin Genealogy 2:609), so obviously something has been done on the name. My book was written in the 1940s. As you can see, they moved around married elsewhere but the book is written about the families of Oakham Ma.
