Hi Merren, It appears that quite often children were sent to live with other relatives at various times, sometimes due to sickness of the mother etc. Isn't Mary Ann McCullough nee Priestly the lady who died of cancer on Christmas Day 1899 after having been crook for years? She had a tribe of kids, so Alexander was probably 'farmed out' to the McKibbins for a while to make things easier at home.
